And the exhaust is on the left side? Look to see where the exhaust goes and how its clamped. Exhaust leaks?

what's engine Temps like when u feel heat? Hot days or any day? Have u felt the actual floor when u've felt the heat on ur leg? Not a dodgy heater?

its a jdm 4age bigport 3rib, temp guage always saying its at mid temp so i dont know what it could be caused by, sometimes its on average degree days, exhaust is on left side, standard jdm exhaust system. i might get it checked for leaks i guess

i used to get this in my last ae86. my left leg would always warm up then hurt on a long drive. figured it was normal because i had an old ford whos transmission would warm up as much on a nice drive

yeh its definitely not normal guys. i cant see it being exhaust related as it runs down the other side, could be g/box related as above...
next time it gets real hot see if you can get under there and feel/see whats actually getting hot (apart from the tunnel obviously)

cars about 6cm off ground and i dont have a jack that gets straight under there =\ normally takes me about 10-15 mins at home to get car with a jack under it,
clutch slave is on my side could that create the heat?

Nah clutch slave isn't going to create heat.
I guess the thing to think about is what could be creating heat. Its really got to be something with moving parts (friction) or something involved with the combustion process.

all my 86's have done this... its the trans radiating heat, usually only does it on warmer days.

do u have rediculous bonnet spaceing? if u do your tunnel may not be gettin the airflow it used to get. allowing bigger gaps at the rear of bonnets alows airflow but it sometimes give all the wind coming through annother place to go.. if do have your bonnet spaced try removing them check ur tranny.

not spaced atall but took a shitload of time aligning it, used to touch the top of firewall kinda bit

can u buy transmission coolers for manual gearboxes? lol

when was the last time u checked or changed the oil in the gearbox? their is nothing at all in that area that could create enough heat to warm up the tranny tunnel in order for it to give your left leg a sun tan. if it was on the pax side then the exhaust but its not so u can rule that out. id be doing an oil change on the box, oh by the way how long have u been driving and how hard before this happens... i just re read its through the carped/deadening to.. thats intence!!

yeah not major heat like burning my whitey legs, but id imagine its a fair bit if i can feel it through sound deadening/carpet, i dont remember changing the oil when i had engine/box out so i dont think its been changed since it came to AU so i might checkup what oil i need n shit

Wait, are you saying you pulled the engine and gearbox out and didn't change the gearbox oil?! :omg: Did you even drain the box? as you would have had oil everywhere when you pulled it all out if you didn't. Or did you just pour the old oil back in.
