have recently replaced shoes, adjusted them nice and tight, and nothing. pulling handbrake just gradually slows the car.
what's next... new drums?

even with flogged drums it should dtill work ok if adjusted correctly. I say jack it up and get someone to pull the level while your under there looking at the bias bar under the floor to see if something is amiss

adjusted the shoes at the shoes or under the car?

sounds like the cables might be stretched so you dont actually get the full affect of yanking the handbrake.....

drums haven't been machined. i've been trying to wear them in (randomly ripping the handbrake) and nothing. but next time i drive i'll give it a go.

Loosen the adjuster inside the car all the way, (this is an important step if you are having problems).
Check adjustment at both drums.
Check cables are not broken.
Then adjust up the cable at the lever inside the car, till it takes about 5 or 6 clicks to pull up firm.

Check the brake holds the car on a hill, stationary. The handbrake is not designed to lock the rears while already doing 50 in a straight line.

its not designed to but it does easly, we know there not "meant" to but mine does and alot of other peoples do

and make sure that there both adjusted good cause if you have one way out the t peice in the cable takes the slack, form the shit side before pulling the good side
