well the race version, some funny toyota code like the 2L in the supra.

this guy used a smallport head, crazy build but a bit of a waste really imo.

i know the guy that built that.
he only did it because he could really. he done all the work himself for nothing and it cost less than $300 so why not.

This is an interesting build. The reliability of the K series bottom end couple with the twincam head would make that one hell of an engine. I mean, sure it wouldn't be a killer but it would sound awesome and probably outlast civilisation!

I would be keen to see someone do this with the 7K (1800cc) bottom end and the twincam head. IMO a 7K bottom end would kill a 7A block for outright durability...

how is a 7A bottom end unreliable?

Who said unreliable?

From everything I have seen / read / heard a K series block is pretty bulletproof. I know the 7A block is porky but I don't think they would be as hard wearing as a K block ;)

it's cool, but why bother?

wouldn't a 4age be easier and more powerful?

I think mainly for the cool factor.

'back in the day (on Rollaclub) say 2003/2004 there was talk of doing this with a custom billet aluminium head. This came off the back of the infamous 3K-R twincam K series photos that did the rounds and made everyone drool... Drooling over a K series engine you say?

To understand this, you really have to get into the heads (no pun intended) of the K series guys. They really do mod the fark out of everything. There are lots and lots of guys out there with a 3K/4K/5K engine as opposed to 4AGE engines. Just like in Puerto Rico, it is all about the stupid 8 second quarter mile drag racers running Toyota 3T engines. There are lots of "niches" out there in Toyota land... The Toyota K series (ala Rollaclub) is another one of them.

My point(s) :

* The K series engine is built solid (nay, like a brick shizen hausen) and the only major drawback is that it has an asthmatic little 8 valve head. The guys who make "good" to "great" power out of a 4K always have to do LOTS of headwork to get them to flow and even then it isn't nearly as good as a wide angle twincam head. I have seen SO many people TALK about it - it is just nice to see that someone actually followed through with it.
* K series engines are also CHEAP and very simple to work on
* There are plenty of factory K series parts available because :
* The K series engine is actually one of the longest running (car) engine series produced in the world. If you check it out you'll find that new parts were manufactured up to 2007? I think it was as there are K powered Toyota FORKLIFTS out there.
* The K series comes RWD from factory, so all these guys have to do is chuck ITBs on and plumb it up and away they go.

+1 for fucking awesome swap. Underpowered or not, if you're a K series owner, this would be a pretty awesome thing to do. 4AGE owners that haven't ever owned a 4K wouldn't understand ;)

No its not, its 'inspired by'.
Bears very little similarity to the 3K-R, which has narrow valve angles, high ports and an enclosed gear drive valvetrain.
It has the same amount of valves and cams, and its based on a K-motor block and thats it.

Good effort!
