it sounds rough but try and punch a screwdriver through it and use that as a lever to twist it off....or just go buy a filter remover strap......lol

Yea the screwdriver though the filter works well, also if you have a really big monkey wrench with a rough surface you can get the off as well.

If you go buy an oil filter wrench you may find that it maybe to small, that is the case with the smallest ones supercheap sell anyway, then all you need to do is wrap the oil filtre in a rag or something and get it off like that.

good luck

This is what I use, best thing ever. Bought it for $10 at autobarn but make sure the one you get is a 2-way and not just a 1-way http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif

The long stick is a socket extension. When the ratchet goes left the arms go that way until tight on the filter and when the other way around it goes the other way

Thanks everyone for your help......we didn't get it off!
we have lots of different filter remover objects and tried all of them but with no luck!

We got my oil filter off the sil80 by stabbing it however, we didn't want to risk the screwdriver thing as it got stormy quickly and we didn't want to be stuck with no car for drifting tomorrow!!!

I'm sure Nath (levinafey) will be on later to explain what the difficulty was http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

that is the least messiest way to get them off....failing that you can get a big pair of multigrips and twist that fucker off...

It's also a little safer becuase if u do it just after driving (or u are using engine oil flush) u won't burn ur hand on the manifold

Hey

I bought one of these from Snap-On, $26 bucks but removes Toyota OEM and other oil filters of same size in seconds, uses 3/8 Ratchet!

Snap-On Oil Filter Socket (http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?P65=&tool=all&item_ID=11540&group_ID=1534&store=australia&dir=catalog)

Before I got this i used screwdriver, those strap things just wouldnt fit in there!

screwdriver is the simplest and quickest way to solve that problem... a bit of mess never hurt anyone!

they don't need to be brutally tight, either. when you put your new filter on, tighten it with one hand, so you can undo it with 2 hands! it will still be plenty tight enough.

Put on rubber gloves, dishwashing gloves are fine, and all the grip should help you twist it off.

fuel is going to spill whether you like it or not http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

Fuel will go everywhere, take the cap off to let the pressure out but yeah, it's not pretty, just wash the car a.s.a.p

Yep relocation kit and cooler are on the to do list....however this is our first oil/filter change since owning the car and by the looks of how tight it is, we assume an air tool has done it up.

got one of those oil filter remover wrench things, can't wait to use it http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

to the dude worried about fuel, don't stress to much...I've changed one before.. not that much fuel goes everywhere and as long as you have a cloth, you'll be sweet and make sure to wash any spills http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif
