this is a major stab in the dark .. but as im browsing around for a new engine i came across a rather cheap RB20DET

what is the possibility of droppin one in a hachi, or is it a bad idea.
i was looking for a ca18det .. how to they compare.
im assuming the RB will be too heavy

to long to fit into a sprinter without radiator support movement or fire wall bashing, then you got the tunnel for the gear box, got no idea on how much that would have to change

sounds like it would be a sweet car tho! different!!!

well an RB25 has been done into sprinter, i was contemplating doin it myself tho its no good for drift as it becomes way to heavy in the front compared to the rear especially, but if u dont wan to go sideways then it would be the shizzle! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif
so im doin an sr20 instead

actually the rb20 gearbox is almost identical to a ca18 gbox. the ca box fits into the tunnel with no massaging needed (except cutting of the shifter hole)

Crossley did a CA18DET with a RB20 gearbox

yes, that would be my car. Its finally back on the road again!!! The RB20 box fits in the tunnel fine, just had to bolt it up to the ca18 bellhousing. Would have gone with the ca box, but with the engine mounts i had made, the rb20 box fitted better. (It mounted the shifter closer to standard position.) If your looking for a ca18, check around the wreckers. It took about 3 months for someone to find one for me. (I got mine through STZ Automotive, and they did a good job of supplying it)

well if an RB makes a sil front heavy.....

I can only comment from an RB into Silvia perspective, but it makes sense that the same logic can be applied to a sprinter.

The weight difference between RB20 and CA18 is actually not that much, the biggest issue with the RB20 is the amount of engine in front of the crossmember. Causing the front to "feel" heavier than it actually is. And therefore causing understeer etc.

This can be reduced (Not eliminated) by shifting the crossmember FORWARD, so as to minimise the amount of engine sitting forward of the member. Combined with some creative massaging of the firewall (To allow engine to sit as far back as possible) it MAY actually work with some reasonable success.......although it is a hell of alot of effort.

My suggestion would be to sell that free RB20 and buy a CA18 package.

I'm pretty sure I had an old Drift Battle or HPI magazine with a sprinter with either an RB or supra motor in it. Maybe someone else remembers it?

yea i agree ^^ sell the RB and buy a toyota engine for a toyota, none of this automotive Transexuality... if you want an RB i recommend buying a nissan. it would be ok for a drag car or maybe a curser/show car but i cant see it being any good for anything like drift or circuit.. there are plenty of better options. there is a reason people don't do this sort of conversion often. just go with the crowd. no one will think little of you for going 4ag.

But you'll have some good street cred with the burnout boys if you put a six in. You could cruise with the big V8's and winged commiedores. Imagine the possibilities....

personally im not a an of the rb20's however this motor is only free if i put it in my hachi, he wont give it to me if im going to swap it/ sell it cause thats what he wants to do....he is just a really nice mate who wants to see my car running...........an rb20 would b 1 of the last engines i would think of putting in it but i have NO money and its free so i just thought id ask, alls i needed was the replies about wieght/handling etc.

so from what i figured an rb will through my balance and handling out too much so i wont take it...so ill just have to wait along time before my car will b back on the road http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/fap.gif

I feel your pain but wouldn't a boat anchor (4AC) be better than having your car sitting sitting looking prettyif you don't have the cash for whatever conversion you're planning?

the rb wont fit
theyre longer than 1j's that dont really fit.

ill see you a ca turbo package missing the turbo for a grand and the mounts to mount it for another 400.

rb20det blocks are cheap, possibly about the same price as a ca18det or even cheaper.

sr20det are newer and I doubt you'll find a idiot stupid enough to swap with you.
garentee you can? hahaha.. exactly like how you can get kaaz lsd for $750 each hey
