Penzoil Multi vis 20/50 in 4AFE, 4AC (mates car)

Penzoil Street machine 25/50 in new project revs motor..

have tried various semi synthetics 10/40, 15/50, 20/60, found mineral 25/50 to be the best comprimise because up here in the middle of the day it gets F$%#ING hot and oil turns to water thin..thats when engine failure occures....

mattysshop
4th January 2006, 01:15 PM
have to say Penzoil is the best stuff i have used..

Penrite turns black after only a few hours use.. dunno why but it's quite smokey too.. even for such a thick oil... like 20/60..

wouldn't touch Castrol or anything thin or semi synthetic on a non rebuilt engine.., only on very fresh rebuilt 4AGE's, and low KM 20v's...

everything else i'd use a 20/50 or 25/50 if it's got a little higher in the km's...

i'd hit it up with a bottle of stree machine 25/50, see if that stops the smoking, if not top up the oil a bit with a little Lucas Oil Stabilizer.. this shit is awsome!!! makes oil soo thick and gooooooey...my rings were completly stuffed in my old GZE, this gave it another 6mts driving! and didn't blow smoke..

i'm in brisbane, and i find that most other oils get tooooo thin on 40 degree days.. thats why i run a thicker oil...

i just went to supercheap on boxing day and bought half a dozen Z386's, my idea is if you change the oil and filter frequently enough the more chance you have of your engine lasting.. usually change the 86's oil every month or so.. cheap insurance if you ask me.. oil only has to go too thin for a few seconds to cause irreversible damage..

also with oil filters.. ryco or valvoline ones are perfectly fine.. most other brands are good also, as long as they have an anti-drain back valve you can use it fine..

So you use a Z386 Matt. A Z158 also fits but is slighty bigger. So you know which one would be better?

bigger filter with a thin oil would give a lower oil pressure..i used to use a 158 on my GZE because i ran 25/50 and 500ml of lucas..so it was thick as all hell (heaps of oil pressure).. but with my oil cooler sandwhich plate there a 158 won't fit with the extractors http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

ask Levinaify (sp??) about using a thin oil in a non rebuilt average KM 4AGE... ding ding ding... whats that noise.. ohh it's a big end!!! the only edge oil that springs to mind is the 25w50 stuff.. should be fine, if you like using castrol oils use that is.

shifts are sweet!! 3rd gear used to grind and crunch all the time.. no matter what manual box oil i put in there.. a toyota tech mate of mine suggested this to me.. i thought bullshit.. but no, it really does work! some manual boxes even specify running an auto fluid.. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

you would know this, do you experience any clutch fade due to the fluid reaching its boiling point come to the end of the race?

i know it wouldnt as u use nice fluid, but have you ever had it happen?

DOT 4 should be enough for a non racing sprinter should it not?

I am currently using HPR 15 (15W/60 Semi Syn) and it doesn't use much oil but people tell me my car does blow smoke and I will be idling at the lights or when I park in the garage I will smell this bad smell. Could that be because the oil is to thin?

You said Matt that you are using Street Machine by Pennzoil. If you read on the bottle it says that it is designed for Big Bored Out Street Machines though. That would put it in the same class as The New Castrol Edge 25W/50 (Originally Formula R and then originally GP50) Nulon 25W/60 Street & Track, etc. etc. and all of them say It is formulated with the needs of the enthusiast in mind. It is designed specifically to provide optimum film strength and protection for large 6 and 8 cylinder engines operating under high stress conditions
Will these oils still be fine for the 16v 1.6l 4 cyclinder though?
