Hey,

im a bit rusty on toyota engines,
I know the 4ac came out stock on ADM sprinters. Just asfter what the common upgrades are for ADM sprinters, Like i hear all these names like 4ag,4age,4agze
But it basiclaly means nothing to me lol http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

anyone able to explain what cars these motors (and others are out of)
and the difference between all of them?

Basically what im personally looking to achieve is to find out what motors are avaliable to me that are a direct bolt in replacement (or with a few minor mods)
as im not up for cutting firewalls etc.

Thanks

4ag and 4age are the same, the complete name is 4ageu for that model, its basicly a twin cam 16valve 1.6ltr.

4agze is a low compression supercharged version of the 1.6ltr

use the search function and or google it.

From the old toymods:

Toyota Engine Codes

Toyota engine codes are split into two sections, the bit before the dash, and the bit after it (eg: 2JZ-GTE).

Before the dash.
The letters signify the "family" or "series" of the engine. The numbers signify a revision of the bottom end (ie: bore, stoke, block). Higher numbers don't necessarily mean a larger block.
For example, the twin turbo engines in modern Supras are the 1JZ-GTE and 2JZ-GTE. The 1JZ is a 2.5L engine, while the 2JZ is a 3.0L. Both are twin turbo inline sixes.
After the dash.
The letters after the dash specify the features of the engine.
G -ÂÂÂ# Wide angle Twin Cam (sportier head)
F -ÂÂÂ# Narrow angle Twin Cam (economical head)
T -ÂÂÂ# Turbocharged
Z -ÂÂÂ# Supercharged
E -ÂÂÂ# Electronic Fuel Injection
U -ÂÂÂ# Emissions control (Japanese)
C -ÂÂÂ# Emissions control (Californian).

Sample Engines And Their Codes
These are a few engines that can be found in our members' cars.
4A-GE: 1.6L DOHC EFI 16V inline four cylinder
4A-GE (20 Valve): 1.6L DOHC EFI 20V inline four cylinder
4A-GZE: 1.6L DOHC EFI 16V supercharged inline four cylinder
7A-FE: 1.8L DOHC EFI 16V inline four cylinder
1G-GTE: 2.0L DOHC EFI 24V intercooled twin turbo inline six cylinder
3/4K-C: 1.3L OHV Carby 8V inline four cylinder (4K block, 3K head)
5M-E: 2.8L SOHC EFI 12V inline six cylinder
7M-GTE: 3.0L DOHC EFI 24V turbocharged inline six cylinder
18R-C: 2.0L SOHC Carby 8V inline four cylinder
18R-GEU: 2.0L DOHC EFI 8V inline four cylinder
3S-GE / 3S-FE: 2.0L DOHC EFI 16V inline four cylinder
3S-GTE: 2.0L DOHC EFI 16V turbocharged inline four cylinder
2T-G: 1.6L DOHC 8V inline four cylinder

Toyota Model Codes

Toyota model codes are are unique for every car that Toyota makes. Although they may look like a jumbled mess, they actually (shock) have a meaning.

The model codes are made up of four or five characters. The first two (four character codes) or three (five character codes) are alphabetical characters followed by two numerical characters. The codes look like AE86 (1983-1985 Sprinter) or JZA80 (current Supra).

First characters
The first one (four character code) or two (five character code) letters describe the engine.
Take for example, the MkIII Supra which appeared in 1986 to 1989. This car came out with three different engines, and thus had three possible model codes:
1G-GTE engine: GA70
7M-GTE engine: MA70
2JZ-GTE engine: JZA70

Next character
The next character (and the only one remaining) describes the chassis of the car. Every chassis of Toyota has a code, and even though a car can keep its name through chassis changes, the model code will reveal a different chassis. Take for example the Celica. Rear wheel drive Celica's came on an 'A' chassis, but the change to front wheel drive meant a new chassis, the 'T' chassis:
1983-1985 Celica: RA6x
1986-1989 Celica: ST14x

Note that the Celica's also changed from the 'R' Series engines to the newer 'S' series engines at the same time.

Numbers
The numbers represent new models and revisions of standard models. The first number (or two) represent a different generation of car whilst the last number represents a revision of a model generation. For example, if we take the rear wheel drive Celicas:
MkI Celica: TA22, RA22, TA23, RA23, RA28.
MkII Celica: RA40
MkIII Celica: RA60, SA63, RA65

And there you have it. I hope it all made sense, if you want to have some more real world examples, check out our Member's Cars page to see the model codes of the cars our members drive!

ok now ive got a brief understanding of all these engines, and where they came from.
the next question is do all these engines straight swap into a adm sprinter http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

the ironic thing is im not thinking about doing an engine conversion,
just tyring to get my education up on toyotas http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

short answer yes.. the RWD 4A engine mounts will bolt straight up to all of the engines listed in the 4A family..some will bolt straight in, others you may need to move a bracket / accesory or change the ignitiong setup (20v only) etc etc, but all the bolt/stud holes are there..

whats the difference between emission controlls?
if it like pollution gear like on rx7s that you can just pull off and throw away

wont do shit, infact itll probably run worse if you dont do it right, the 4ac has a non crossflow head, ancient design, forget about trying to make them go fast and get a 4a-ge.
