dude if you had asked me this about 4 mts ago i would have sold you my 18RG fresh rebuilt, carbs, full motor, everything.. gearbox/clutch! and it would have come with a free RA40!!! but i took it out.. put it in my RN41 tuff lux, then sold it to a mate..

Get a 3SGE.. alot easier to get parts for.. plus you get fuel injection and 16v!!

have a gander.. it was the EFI head (big port if you will) with '280' cams (the toyota part number not 280 duration http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif ) and the 9.7 bottom end.. goes awsome still! but sadly not for sale.. however he does want to put a 1UZ in the lux... needs to finish his Sprinter off first..

if you want some budget performance from the 18R motor. i have some ally manifolds hand made to bolt the 18RG twin carbs onto the 18R-C... all you need is some carbs, and some extractors..should work out just fine with a fatter cam.. somthing with a bit more lift and a bit more duration.. say something as generic as a 75/35, bit better than a 70/30, motor should pull hard past 6500rpm.. i had that set up in my old RA28 stang celica, and it used to get infront of 18R-G's http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif pm if you want the manifolds http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

if you can damage an 18RC i'll give you $100 bucks.. i mega overheated mine when i first got my RA28.. to the point where the motor stalled.. i left the bonnet up for 1 hour.. filled the rad up with water again, and off i went for another year till i sold it..

the crank and rods are the same in the 18RG's just pistons, head, oil pump, and some other stuff are different.. rev it's balls off.. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

i used to have a G200 (2.0 litre rodeo) motor in my TG gemini.. big cam, 40mm sidedrafts, 10.5 compression, massive port work, offset ground crank (using smaller bigends) and bored out to 2.4 litres using toyota deisel forged pistons.. it made full power at 8200rpm.. stock rods..stock crank etc etc..thier redline is 6000rpm..

and seriously who cares if you do stuff the 18RC.. there a diem a dozen, if you even have to pay anything at all!! i gave my one from the hilux away!

hahaha ok fair enough. is there ne reason dohc is betta the sohc because i cant see why with only 8 valves...

the head physically flows more air in and out.. the valve angles and sizes are different, camshafts have more lift and duration as the head flows soo much better, higher compression, even just the shaping of the ports differently changes the way any engine behaves and not to mention the RG is a crossflow alloy head..yes there only 8 valves.. but there 8 big fother mucking valves, and the standard lift (depending on what version 18RG you get) ranges from around 11-12mm of lift.. (stock 4age is 7.1mm smallport 100kw) just cos it's only 2 valves per cylinder doesn't mean it can't pul good numbers.. V8 super cars as 2 valve per cylinder...

back in the 70's the 18RG was the absolute creame of the crop of engines that came out of japan.. with a few different versions.. the best of which had 145-150hp (depending on reference material)... have a look at what everyone elses 2.0 litre 4 banger non turbo production car was making.. plus all the toyota reliability is there..

so wats this just a factory modded engine then? i mean it comes with headers twin carbs better compression and lift and what sounds like a mild form of porting. would this engine have much more power once all modifying options are exhausted or does it just mean all the hard work's been done for you and there isnt much left to do to it...hehe kinda like a mercedes lol
