Has anyone modified their 4ac? (or know of someone who has?)

If so, can you give me some details please? I can't afford a 4age conversion so I want to get some more horsepower from my 4ac.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I can't find ANY information on modifying the 4ac (other than using a different carburetor.)

save and get a 4ag!!!! i think the fact that u cant find information about tuning a 4ac, shows that no one has wasted thier time or money on it.

Just supercharge it.

Search it's in a post somewhere on the older toynods forum i think.

Apart from that, cost wise, not likely to cost less then a 4ag.

Non crossflow head doesnt help either. But they are a tough little motor, can take loads of abuse.

Well mine did anyways.

Cheers

I thought of tuning the 4AC, but it seems so pointless.
Stick a cannon on, paint the rocker cover black and paint the car panda. That should add a few horses http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif .
But a tuned 4AC would be pretty cool, if you had the $$$ to waste.
Didnt someone somwhere say they bolted a turbo onto the 4AC and it lasted about a week? You could go around collecting 4ACs, bolt a turbo and change the engine every week!

Ages ago there was a guy on rollaclub selling a fully worked 4ac, it was rebuilt from the ground up, with a big cam, balanced bottom end, ported, weber downdraught and i think it just matched a standard 4age for rwkw.

A guy i know turboed a 4ac (an old and tired one) that he had in his rally car with a suckthrough carby set up and a turbocharger of a diesel. It went good.....for a little while! The mechanic that helped work on it tells me its demise was more rpm related than boost related, with the guy swinging it past 8k regularly!

Ok so tuning the 4ac is out of the question. How much for 4age 16V or 20V conversion including labour?

Thanks everyone

May the search be with you!

Ok's as far as 4AC, my mate modded his to be a 'double pumper' it got dynoed at 46kw atw, there is a kit from USA (ive linked it somewhere in the general topics) that converts it to DCOE and comes with A cam, the end result is as much power as the 88kw 4AGE.

But yeah the guys are right, by the time you ass about, you could do a 16v conversion, budget no more than about 5k...

This topic has been covered many many times!

Put 4AC in the bin, purchase 4AGE

Stick with the 4AC, get good a driving it and drifting it, then go up to some more power.

With lots of practice, I can keep up with a 4AGE sprinter through the hills in my 4K-C KE70. I have just suspension mods with nothing too spesh.

Spend your cash on suspension. Its the best bang for buck imo in any Corolla or Sprinter.

Haha, a Sprinter is a Corolla http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif

But I agree... Suspension, handling & Braking first. Then work on more power.

Technically in Australia, the Sprinter was NOT a corolla.

Despite the fact that its called one in Japan and has the *E** Model number (common for all Corollas)...it was never once called a Corolla.

4ac's are tough litte motors, learn to drive with it, have fun, a good set of pipes and a carby and a slighly longer duration cam would go ok, but as everyone has said, just get a 4age

4ac is great learning engine because of its power delivery.
it is waste of money to modify 4ac unless you are a super millionaire.
get 4age power! yes. let's enjoy 4age!

massiv forum disrep to you son.

I agree that a 4AC isnt some sickass powerplant and that it shouldnt be modified...however I believe a 4AC has ample power for the beginner to learn in and learn to control.

Come to Adelaide and many can show you that a 4AC powered car can outrun many a fast nissan in the hills and hold its own on the track.

i'm not sure what the previous owner of my daily did to it, but the 4ac in that was the most responsive lil bugger ever. i might put it on the dyno when i get it going again
