205's are the ghey...

maybe your cars handles shit?

or the tyres you have now are softer rubber,

maybe try the same tyre in a 185 or 195...

i wouldnt run 205 on a 14, unless it was at least 8.5 inch wide

205's foul on the body, especially if you run your car low...

it is also to do with weight per wheel etc and 185 is plenty enough for a 900kg corolla,

185 provide plenty of response and are very common in a 14...

On my KE I have on the front

1 x yoko A539 185/60/14
1 x yoko A520 185/60/14

Both are awsome tyres and are a similar compound, but different pattern

On the rear I use

2 x bridgestone RE88 185/60/14

imo the best 14" drift tyre ever!!111

On my AE86 is use Brigestone G3s on the steer in 195/50/15

on the rear I use any 195/50/15.

i dont really see a problem with the 205/50/15 size
It must really be a offset problem if its rubbing on the inner side of the guards
86's dont have that much suspension travel that you can really every hit the inner guards in the rear .That alll easy to fixed and just look at the tyre contact area how can it handle crap ?

here : www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp

And a 14x8.5 , thats stretching the tyre passed the point of usefully outer contact area

You all might as well add your sizes in and see how the gearing is all higher than the stock wheel ratio

I am now looking for a 225/45/16 which is 238mm tread width http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

You are all going to ask why 16" , well that because i can choose any make of road tyre or semi slick , and a 240 slick . With 14' 15' manufactures aren't bothering doing every size now http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/angry.gif . Also clears the calipers and 300mm disc which might get another eight pistons added to the front soon http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Are the potenza G3's a really good tyre? what are peoples opinion of them in the rain/dry for street use?
Also how will it effect handling if i have a 45/205R16 on the front and a 50/195R16 on the back?
Im thinking about getting some Potenza G3's to put on the front and putting my current Kumhos on the back.

I run Kumho Ecsta 711's (195/50/15s) on mine, fairly grippy, nothing like $200/tyre ones though. I picked em up for $85 each. Wear rate is pretty good too.

floody31
22nd April 2006, 01:37 PM
I'm running 205/60R15 Potenza GIIIs on my Skyline, they're a great tyre. Wet performance is quite good, dry performance quite good too, wear rate seems fine, the 205/60 is the only one without their additional sidewall reinforcement stuff which sucks, but they're still not too flexy.

I had Kumho powermax on there before and they were utter rubbish. Bugger all grip in the dry, downright scary in the rain, and the sidewalls were very flexy, you could feel the car walk around on them cornering.

When I go up to 16 or 17" rims I'm definitely getting GIIIs again.

great tire in the rain, good feedback, and wore quite well.

bridgestone g3 are cheaper by about $20/ea, but just had them put
on last week, so cant make any comments about em just yet - look promising so far...

only problem with running small tyres - 14/15" is the small range available.
yoko avs-es100, yoko a539, bridgestone g3, kuhmo ecsta supra 712, supra mx
are the best available by those manufacturers for small cars.

On the front at the moment I'm running with Nankang NSII's. 195/50/16. they seem to go alright. on the real there are some Nankang 185/55/14. They are great drift tyres. Good mix of grip and slide. Nice and predicatble.
I have found the NSII's to be pretty shit in thew et, but reasonable int he dry. Would be better if my rims were bigger than 6.5in. Need 7+.

if they are anything like the 535s then steer clear. The 535 are sloppy and are a very average tyre. ut some people have used the 595 at Targa tasmania, but that's probably only so they last the whole rally. I say you get what you pay for from tyres, that's why A048s, DZ02s, V70As and RE55s are $300-350 a tyre in 15".....

The 595RS is a very different tyre to the 595SS.

A mate of mine runs the RS on his r32 gts-t and is only just off the pace of Bridgestone RE55(true semi-slick) crowd at our tackdays.

also tried toyo trampio semi slicks 185/55r14. they were excelent for the first couple of laps. but were very soft compound and they diddnt last long. you diddnt have to worm them up!!

I need some tyres to go over 14x9 and 14x9.5 rims... I've looked high and low, but cant find anything that'll do the trick. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

i have probably posted in this thread already, but here is another vote for the G3s.

im running 195 50/15s on a 7 inch rim, couldn't be happier with them and they are really cheap considering shit/tolerable 14s cost about 90 bucks each. wet grip is amazing so far.

if you are tossing up between 195 50 15 and 195 55 15 then dont bother with the 55s, they are about 40 bucks more a tyre and i find the comfort of the 50s is fine (all things considered)

both tyres rub. The fronts rub the inner wall ( wheel arch guards) when parking and when cornering hard, also when cornering hard they hit the inside of the guards!

The rears his the guards when the car corners hard or hits a bump....

What should i do... Get different width and profile tyres or just roll the guards ? or both ?

It would be great for some usefull advice on the problem

I have g force sports on my 31, they are only 3 months old and they are already badly feathered. I havent touched anythign effecting alignment since i had one done in january, and ive had other tyres on the front since then without this problem. still trying to figure out why, although it may have something to do with excessive sliding scrubbage

Yeah, i just had to get the vice grips out this morning and roll my passenger guard due to a bit gouge on the outer wall of my tyre after 3 days of having them on there.
Id say the feathering is just cos they have a high tread wear rating, most people that use them on heavier cars (31 would fit the bill) have said they suck because they don't last long so they should last on a ae86 seeing as its about 3-400kg lighter.
Less understeer in the wet is very reassuring, cheers for the good news.

I've been running dunlop all around for a bit with success at 15x195 r15

formula on rears
japanese delivered le mans on the front

I've noticed the formulas are medium hard tire, the rear end was quite loose under load when cold/moderate heat though once quite hot, grip improves a lot. weird

on the other hand, the le mans are like glue, as I think the japanese versions are a lot softer than the australian delivered tires. perfect for the front. I'd almost rate them as high as RE01's

they have even got a life-time warrenty on the sidewalls.
i could go on and on about these tyres but for more info google 'Marangoni tire' or http://www.eurotyreusa.com/
honestly these are the best value performance tyre i could find.

on the rear ive used a mix of tyres, maxis, roadstone, dunlop sp3000 (came with car) and dunlop intensa.
with the exception of the sp3000, i didnt notice any differance between these.
the sp3000's had great sideways hold, and drive out of corners, but delaminated after only a few laps, prob cos they were old.
they are also too expensive to replace for rears.

hope this helps someone out... MARANGONI! jump on board people! :2thumbs:

i am currently running Sumitomo tyres that ome with my car. what tyres does everyone else use? i hear sumitomo is good brand (they make brakes for the r32 GT_R) are there tyres good? i am not sure what tyres to get when i replace the stock ones?[/b]
heh, odd. my car came with sumitomos too. only the rear ones though. sumitomo HTR 200 205/60 R-13s to be more specific. and theyre awesome. they outlived the front tires once already, and they still have good thread and hardly show any sign of wear. its as if the never wear out.

185 55 15 are way to expensive than 195 50s like 80 bucks more for a normal one.

did you know they make a dragon in 345 35 15? the hunt is on for rims to fit :)

i have set of 195/50 RE001's on my 15" rims. Used them in the mountains front and rear on the cruise and omg, i might have a 4ac but it was just flat throttle, no understeer, a little oversteer.

I use them on the front when sliding, Highly recommend them for a cheaper steer tyre.

potenza's RE-O1 14 x 195 60 series.....solid tyre. response and predictability even with strech...helps you understand whats missing in the cars handling...
had falken azenis on 15s before potenza's pretty good too, the silent tyre FTW!

I have had some p6000, 195/50/15

I personally thought they where very ordinary and i wouldn't never buy them again... they are on par with sava's as far as grip level goes imo. i went to some okish spec Advans and they where so much better it wasn't funny, the Advans where half/three quaters worn and had been sitting around in a shed for 12months at least. they also had descent life (not they I'm too worried about tyre life lol), being used regularly for hills runs and a track day. they did very well, can remember the model. they where a 195/55.

345 35 15 nos4fag knows hes down with uber size rims

maybe a 15x15 -60 shoudl be sweet and guards well bigger than n2 is whats needed

um wernt GIII in the 14's discontinued?

im usually down with a 185 60 r14 stretched but now leaning toward the 15's way of life so maybe a 195 50 will be all thats needed G3's ftw

have you done skids on them in the dry?

I'm looking for cheap 13" tyres that will hold up to drifting and not delaminate that are cheap.

do you mean for grip or slip?

I use 195/50/15 Potenza adrenaline's on the front and rear for grip driving. Really good tyre, i have very little understeer using them in the dry on track (which is only caused by my driving style i.e. poor), and in the wet they are really good as well.

I paid $560 for all four brand new. Really really good budget tyre.

slip, just any shit will do on the back, skinnier and smaller diameter the better (4ac), with adrenalines on the front.

can't go wrong

my rears are normally what ever is lying around the shop that wont de-laminate after a few corners. I changed my wheel studs the other day cause i was getting worried about changing rims on the back so often.

Cheap crap on the back, ive found blue streaks to be slippery but predictable and grippy when you want them to be, plus they are hard and cheap and last pretty well. Come in nice sizes too.

RE-01R's all round all the way! Best choice for drifting I've had. Before that were Direzza Z1's on the rear which weren't new.
Also tried out Grid 3's on the rear previously, was too flexy :( Grid 2's on the rear, even worse.

On my AE71 i run toyo T1R's on the front in a 195/50/15. I got them from Tyrepower on Magill Road for $154.00 each. I have used Adrenaline and Continental but they are not as good as the T1R's in my opinion. The T1R's are a great all rounder with a relatively soft compound. Don't get me wrong the continentals were a fantastic tyre but a crap load more expensive than the toyo's. On the rear i don't care what i run because they get destroyed in approx 3 months. The cheaper the better for the rear!!

what do people think of the f-e-deral 595RS semi slick?
I'm considering buying them for hillclimb/supersprints on my 86.
has anyone used 195/50r15 in them?
id like too speak too somone who has because I'm runnign 195/50r15 silverstone ftz sport and guard clearance in minimal up front due too s13 convserion and guards are pumped as far as they will go (looks sweet thou)
from what i have seen semi slicks seem too be chunckyier around the edges (where guard clearance counts) so i don't wanna buy some untill ive spoken too someone who has them fitted up.
