one end clips into the dash cluster...couple of screws and the dash is off. The other end screws into the gearbox

you'll prolly find the little probe thing at the g/box end is broken...pretty common thing on a 20+ year old car

as far as fixing it either replace it with another adm/jdm one or take the broken one to be duplicated. Theres a place in bris that makes new ones usuing the pieces of your old one - Otto Automotive Instruments so i'd say there'd be other places in other states that do the same thing

The cheapest way is to get another cable from the wreckers, or find someone on here with a spare one.

I just changed mine over and used a KE71 cable. The only difference is where it plugs into the back of the instruments the KE cable has a metal bit you have to cut off so you can use the white plastic bit from the '86 cable. And the little right-angle bit where it plugs into the gearbox isnt on the KE speedo cable so you have to use the 86 one.
As long as you have a tool to cut the metal bit off (I used a grinder) its no trouble to swap.[/b]

Here's a couple of threads on speedo cables:

As said above it is very simple, you just undo the one out of the gear box, it screws in and the one in the back of the dash has 2 clips holding it in, pull it out and replace with a new one.

Still need some help locating it on the gear box, so when u crawling under the car from the front, should it be on the LHS or the RHS?

or am i looking in the wrong around?? http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/blink.gif

its all dark and oily (yes, leaking oil from somewhere) and night time, so cant see much. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif

the cable bolts up on drivers side near the gearbox mount....
but before u remove whole cable undo the 90 degree on end near box and check to see if thats broken, as I have been here before and removed whole cable for nothing... http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/angry.gif
if its broken u will need to find s/h one as they can not be repaired so I was told ( sealed item )if that is not the problem remove dash and check cable turns with a mate at one end .... then u will only remove what u need to remove and save your self some time......

Cheers and good luck

speedo's are over rated....
