IF they modify them to fit all they would do drill new holes to match up with the ae86 ones, then hammer out the old stud bolts and put new ones in the new holes.

i havent had a good look, but if the s13 ones wont fit cuz there too wide you'll have to grind/cut them down a bit too.
nothing too hard, but those bolts are a bitch to get out (i snapped one in the apexi tops for the wrx, took me about 1 hour with a big ass hammer http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif )

Wouldnt it just be easier to sell the S13 ones and loose a bit and then buy some AE86 ones?

Some of the cusco ones etc , have the mounting plate made in a round circle . These can be trimmed down to fit the ae86 strut tower then redrill the inner stud mounting hole . But the problem that nobody has picked up is the different strut diameters or nissan vs toyota . You will really need to work out what shocks you are going to be running to see if it needed different spacers to fit the s13 top mount .

im with KE70drifter
buy some ae86 ones.. i got a pair for $140 (A+++ condition http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif) and dont have to worry about anything.
plus you'd have to be pretty handy with measurements so you dont effect the caster/camber settings (shock hole not exactly in the same place)

How are you going to effect the setting if you bolt the plate into the car with two studs and then drill the third hole . I don't know if you have looked at the strut tower area but the holes are far from being postioned perfect as there 0.5mm bigger to start with , then with the added wear there is 1-2mm at least .
Another plus for the s13 ones are due to the shaft size the bearing is bigger than the ones used in most ae86 ones .

Looking at mine, which have s13 tops on the std setup, the holes are about 3mm each bigger, I guest to just drill them out a little.

yeah, usually the modification is done to the strut tower, not to the strut top. if youre using a datsun front end go for it, but otherwise just get some ae86 tops, theyre not hard to come by.

thanks to the previous owner for hacking my strut tower to fit s13 tops...
f*** sake, why would you bother, ae86 ones arent hard to get.

the bolt pattern on the 86 is not equal. i dont know if the s13 pattern is, but i do know that if you dont get the center in the same position as the ae86 ones, then you alignment will be harder to get equal (im talking about castor-the camber is ovbiously adjustable).
just a question, why is a bigger bearing an advantage? it's not like it's spinning fast or anything.

Why are people hacking strut towers etc http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/rolleyes.gif we are talking about redrilling the STANDARD postion holes for a larger 1.5x10mm thread size { stock 1.5x6mm } on the lower mount . Then if you are going to fit the s13 top to the ae86 you can soon work out that the difference in the location can be taken out by the redrilling offset on the tower . Big bearing its not really a bearing for spinning its for load bearing , and big is going to take more force to break http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/rolleyes.gif datsun front end ? as far as i could tell the s13 was a nissan . I wonder if anyone has really even looked at fitting the top from the misinformed views and wrong information in this thread .
