v-tec
3rd May 2008, 05:21 PM
nah, I'm not actually tigtening it more often

If anyone can send me some info on what your thinking let us know

Got my new daily today!

driftke70
4th May 2008, 12:42 AM
cool news on the daily

my suspicions are that you are adjusting your brakes with too much tension in the ebrake cables, so your cables are taking the force off the wheel cylinders and when you push the pedal they have to catch up on a bit of ground before they reach the shoes and making them work too far out of their stroke range.

Here are my wheels, 14x8 -11 also made by Hayashi Racing, You can see on the step there that my wheels are further inside. Which may actually back up the fact they are -4. I think 0 offset would be right on the front of the step.

v-tec

Ok, car will hopefully start getting painted in about two weeks... ive said it before, but hopefully its definately happening this time....
Ive nailed it down to two colours, i was set on the red but now I'm not sure.

I'm asking for your opinion cause I'm just too slack to make up my mind lol

Its between this:

Velocity Red
http://mrfans.com/cars/Mazda3/rightsudefront.jpg
Anyone who has seen this colour in person, its the much darker more sparkly red on the mazda 3's... not that crap flat colour

OR

Phantom Purple
http://images.cars.com/main/DMI/158512/97068.jpg
Same deal for this colour, very sparkly and very dark purple... almost maroon in some lights... but id say it would be more of the purple without the pearl... apparently the pearl undercoat is yellow :o

These are both Pearls, but i will most likely only be doing the top metalic colour, so it should still come out the same but just not so pearl
I'm very tempted on the purple cause its different, but at the same time i like the red for the exact reason... weird huh

Anyone with photoshop pm me cause it would help me sooooooooooooo much

starni_boy
11th June 2008, 09:11 AM
Are you planning on painting the engine bay again?

If not, choose the red. If yes, purple for sure!

biggo
11th June 2008, 10:43 AM
red

purple is for complex people hahaha.

DRFTPG
11th June 2008, 10:50 AM

Gilly
11th June 2008, 02:00 PM
red

its your colour

v-tec
11th June 2008, 02:00 PM
I got told that from callum too, said that colour looks wak on the 70's

lol I'm so confused... ive asked hao to photoshop it for clearer choice for me
The thing is too purple is a colour thats not un-rare in the drift scene, however this purple isnt all gay and bright etc

Red's good cause its similar to standard one but alot nicer and obviously fresh and new looking... I'm trying to go for the 'it could the cars original colour, but looks fukn phat' look

riojin
11th June 2008, 02:58 PM
go velocity red. its the hot new colour.

i wanna do that phantom purple on the ke70 build i have going on in my head. with a madhouse lip, spirit wing and chrome bumpers that purple will look so pimp. add some gold centred b-bombs and the bitches will automatically jump into the backseat without even having to tell them

Rob574
11th June 2008, 03:08 PM
It has to stay red, no question about it!

v-tec
11th June 2008, 04:54 PM
There's some fairly valid arguments for red, i guess for one thing i definately know it wont look bad. The purple, however i can't be so sure about till its done.... i would say it would be dissapointing later if it would have looked even more awesome.

Probably the comments that makes the most impact is Gilly's lol!
Its true though, i spose if my cars know at all itll be most recognisable by the colour (or the exhaust lol), but there also isnt many hot 71's out there that are red (glares with squinty eye's at sonny ^_^ )

Red might be the choice, will still keep purple in mind though......

v-tec

the pink one lol it was an interesting colour, but not me unfortunately... yea I'm thinking the red's the choice.
Here's some visual choices compliments of Mr Hao

The purples not quite right as he mentioned to me, but it helps alot.. the red just suits the car a whole lot better i think

I had a look at my car yesterday, its getting its rear guards done the same as jasons (Ke70 fronts on rear) so basically big arse metal bolt on's... its awesome too so now i can drop the arse so its level again, and also have some room to fit say a 14x9 - something

Should have the car back friday, if things go my way itll start getting the paint job a week after that

steroidchickens
12th June 2008, 09:25 AM
go purple. something different.

don't worry about that seat, i have the same one and it is a very tight seat.
i got used to it, i was going to sell it but decided to keep it.
once you are in it its all good. haha. its just a bitch to get in and out of.

i sat in a bride zeta3 sport the other day and it is alot bigger than the vios 3 low max. all i can think of is that the vios 3 is a tight make.

think of it this way,

if you went purple you would have to get new fluffy dice.

v-tec
12th June 2008, 09:43 AM
I know lol i noticed that too!!
Hao should have chopped the dice too

not so keen on the black roofs ay, really reckon it only suit's long sleek cars... usually 180's and big long toyotas and that

This was done by my mate Lee who does some Top work, and i think he's getting into the business of doing this if anyone is interested.

A word to the wise tho, ke70's are fcuk off harder to put these guards on the rear than ae86's

All i gotta do once this is done is chop the rears, make sure the fronts arnt scrubbing and then its getting its paint asap

Will look great whe its done.

If you wana bit of a different look, try painting the grille/quad surrounds all satin black?

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/128319.jpg

v-tec
27th June 2008, 09:05 AM
don't rate the full satin black surrounds... i love the subtle bits of chrome that you would see on late 70 early 80's cars.
Definately not going black roof on the ke, looks tacky on such a boxy car

I'm gona see if i can keep the door window surrounds black too cause i reckon it looks alot better when the cars not a dark colour

MountainRunner
27th June 2008, 09:18 AM
lucky u can't notice its there on mine then :(

v-tec
27th June 2008, 01:30 PM
I think its more apparently when the main colour isnt dark... so basically it would look arse on a red car.
Yours looks good, i can't really notice the black and didnt till you actually mentioned it, so can't really make an opinion on whether the black is better or worse.

I really think its something that should be saved for sleek cars like the 180

He was going to be painting it but then my mate came back saying he really wanted to do the paint so people could see his work... Ill have to appologise to fanki i reckon, don't think i put him out of his way or anything but feel bad for saying i want him to do it and then changing.

Its going down to Lee tmro to get started, cut down my rear springs today so fitment is pretty good all round

Shityea, keeping it on the road as long as possible.... Trailering gets so expensive each track day unless you have your own... and then there's the obligitory tow car daily.
Dunno about the offset, doesnt really phase me to be honest, its pretty much the perfect fit whatever it is... if i end up selling them or have to find some more wheels of same size then i might look into what it actually is

negatory on the archy series.... if its done half way through i might enter but I'm in no rush to get it done... went to QR today for the v8's so i do actually want to go for a bash around qr no haha :)

Still pretty keen on the mazda 3 colour, but Lee is really trying to convince me to do something that is not a 3 layer pearl. Mainly because its a fair bit more work and if i get damage (which usually goes hand in hand with drift cars) any resprayed bits will never look the same...

He's gona try find some colours i might like, but i spose ill be fine with the car looking a bit off later down the line for the sake of having a rad colour... but will see, i might see something better. Still thinking some sorta dark red.
A flat colour is definately not an option so anything away from that.
If anyone has any suggestions feel free to point it out :)

I know you said not a flat colour, but I personally think KE70's go off with non metallic colours, Just a gloss finish.

I really think you need to go into your local paint shop and look at the standard colours from different models.

v-tec
21st July 2008, 07:01 PM
I'm just really trying to merge away from the 'drift cars have to be the brightest flat colour i can find in a catalog for high visibility safety apparel'
Not saying that all drift cars are like that, and sometimes it doesnt look half bad... but its not something i want on my car.
Just really want something thats got that grainly/flakely metallic look, something that shows that time, care and money has gone into the paint work and that i trust myself enough on track with such a paint job.

Also not saying i wont crash, but i gotta say i really respect the cars i see with the nice paint and its always mint.

floody31
22nd July 2008, 02:26 AM
Meh, screw the damage factor..Damaged paint is damaged paint no matter how you twist the story and NO paint is ever going to match 100% when its repaired.

The way velocity red highlights in the sun will be awesome on an angular car like a xE7x.

v-tec
22nd July 2008, 09:02 AM
This is true, good advice. I think the main thing is to minimalise the difference in the paint, the thing I'm starting to think though is if i get a bit more competative i might get a bit more damage... but if I'm getting that competative ill probably take on a sponsor by then that would either chip in to touch up the paint... or want a colour to suit the sponsorship...

Still needless to say, velocity is the default if i can't find anything I'm just as happy with.

Konakid
22nd July 2008, 12:19 PM
I'm in the same boat, not going anything metallic or pearl as it will be too hard to blend in when it comes time to fix damage (it will happen!). Thought about going the original AE71 spirit red with a few layers of clear?

Either way, love the metal rear guards, looks way more original, should be lookin thug when done!

Oh right lol, forgot, cheers man!

Ive hit a delema today, trying to figure out what colour my cars going still. The velocity is a good colour obivously, but cause its a 3 layer pearl obviously i risk not having paint match if i crunch a panel.
Ive deemed that unless i do serious damage to the car i probably wont be respraying any bits either way, but obviously there is the risk of having big crunches that will require more paint.

What ive also come to realise is that, i don't want to find the same colour as the velocity in a normal metalic cause obviously I'm always gona think the pearl will be better.

Ive found a colour today that i think is freaking awesome, but sorta tossing it up.

Its like a Dark burgandy, and then goes a bit more pink/red when the sun hits it

Here's probly the best pic i can get of the colour
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/174306.jpg

It looks really cool in the sunlight, its like a sparkly cherry red... which i really like, but unfortunately as shown in this pic before when there's no light its a really burgandy almost brown colour before
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b280/no-v-tec/Image008-1.jpg

It could potentially look good, but I'm just not feeling it. As said I'm gona go down saturday and see if i can get a custom colour made up i like... some sorta cherry candy red that looks a bit like the velocity colour when no light is on it.

Here in the UK the chrome bumpers were std but they stopped making the and people want about £200 for just the Bumpers and ends ($400) so its not that bad. I would like new ones but mine are 90% mint anyway so will do for now.

the bumpers will tranform this car so worth it in Aus were there rarer to see on KE's. :)

v-tec

can't wait to see this on the car, i can't get the words to express how awesome this colour is... in a 2L tin about 1/3 of it is just pure Pearl! lol, and there is about 7 different colours in it.
In the sunlight its still dark red with pink and bronze metalic look through it.... in dark its just an awesome dark red.

I also just can't get any pictures that do it justice, it really has to be seen in real life to get the right perspective of it...

Had my second attempted at welding, this time i decided to not do the thongs and a singlet option as i ended up with a full on front tan last week :pinch:

Anyway, all my bars are sorted now and set to go on once the paint is done... gona loook siiiiiiiick hehe

Got a new relay for the car, started first crank... fkn win
Gotta say its dragging on a bit longer than i thought it would, but its all for the sake of it coming out mint

Fear of scratches? there's like 3k's of kitty litter...

No I'm just going to go 20kph in to the dipper so everyone can notice my sparkly paint
35kph might require dirt turbo

Matt black overcoat ftw to protect prettyness lol, I'm doubting any form of softness from getting the paint.... it would have to be a visual thing for me to go any slower and i can't see the paint from the inside....

Eeek prep's taking a while, lots and lots of bog going into this sucker lol

Also i got some very happy new this week with a massive thanks from Lawson (AJPS) who's been helping me organise couriers for the past few weeks with nothing to gain from it but see my motor sent off.
So the motor is finally sent off, should be at my door step about a week from now :) :)

Eh, I'm too lazy to read the thread, so I'll ponder what is happening engine wise :D

Colours look good too mate. Can't wait to see it trawl the dipper at tractor speed :)

This turned up today.... messy and crying for attention

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/176524.jpg

Its long awaited..... but i wont get into it because its just not nessecary.
I will say this though, Lawson from AJPS helped me out shitloads to get this thing sent up, so a great deal of thanks goes to him.

All came in pretty good condtion, everything is there... Has the engine loom and came with the car loom too lol
But it was face down in the courier so there was oil and coolant everywhere...
Was an effort to get off the truck, i knew we were just gona have to get some mates to help lift it off the truck... but the courier was under the impression that i was going to have a forklift. Not sure who told him that, but its off now...

Also there is this.... Frown Town
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/176525.jpg
The motor crushed it at some point....

Looks ok from the inside, but i spose only time will tell.... also the wiring has been cut so ill have to find where it attaches to...
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/176526.jpg

But anyway, now the Forced induction saga begins for my humble Ae71...
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/1/1/8/233.jpg

Ive got a fair bit of work to do, gotta get an enginen stand as i plan to pull the motor apart as much as i can without touching the block.
So new head gasket, seals and re sealant everything so its shmick as when it goes in.
Plus i plan to get a fair few goodies for it, new oil cooler, guages, allloy radiator... all that crap.

So yeah pretty excited, been looking forward to getting this for a while... and really cant wait to have some good torque for the 71

Lol beally i didnt get that in the slightest... i was excruciatingly tired on the way to work, a bloke took off but then stopped... me being in a subconcious haze of tiredness didnt see and couldnt get on the anchors in time.
Luckily the damage was mostly my car so the bloke said dont worry about it... the best result i could have asked for i guess

Anywho... i went down to see the car tonight to get some stuff done, the paint is 100 times more awesome in person... and these pics still dont do it any justice. Im very happy i didnt go the velocity now cause i love this colour sooo much more.

I mainly wanted to get these pics to show you the extent that Lee is going to with the painting of this car
When i go into the shop i was just struck in awe of how much detail he is putting into this... im truely amazed.

I gotta say when i saw he had done the hinges too i had to ask why, but stoked to see it...
But then i saw he even painted the bolts for the doors!!!!!
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/177150.jpg

Needless to say im glad he's done it, the car is going to look a million dollars after he's done with it

Also i think ill need to pressure wash my motor after all this haha
http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/dcimages/4/8/4/3/177151.jpg

Anyway thats all for now.... hopefully should be fully sprayed this weekend, and will be putting it back together next week right on time for parklands

yeah man ill be in the L2 drift comp... finally found out how the structure of that works haha, so its the one under the pro's

lol @ 210mm free height, sorry but i have no idea... its tein coilovers wound almost to the bottom and about 3/4's of a trd spring. Feels a good setup... i think i had 210 in my ae86, pretty high but felt awesome on the road... just needed some good shocks to accompany them

Lol Jase at driving, im gona install a <strike>Pit Limiter</strike> Jason(s) Limiter in the car
