Call a distributor, apparently they need a certain type. I put just general stuff in my first g/b and it blow 10 days later. The guy at castol said in his book it specifically says not to put in the shit i did, so dont grad the first thing on the shelf
The stuff he recommended was for a mitsubishi i think?? but iv been giving it hell for the past 4 months and it still seems in top nick

I havent got the manual infront of me but I'm pretty sure it was between 1.5-1.7L last time I filled up from well drained.
Fill it up till it starts to dribble out the filler.
I've had, generic stuff in mine, castrol syntrax and redline lightweight shockproof.
The redline has the best shift feel.

if u want to go 'all out'
redline shockproof gear oil is the only way to go, but its VERY expensive.
will DEFINETELY make smoother gear changes, less friction & handle more stress.
but if its just a daily dex 3 is fiiiiiiine

I use VMX80..
seems to do a good job http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif
though i seem to be leaking a bit of oil from the gearbox..
and a bit of oil from the engine.. and a bit of oil from the diff maybe too.
woot.

redline shockproof oils are gay, sure they will fix that tired box up to wicked spec...but ive seen the clag they've left behind clog up oil galleries and fuck up seals...but meh, ive still used it in my boxes, went hard...but i got rid of the cars before i had to change it http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif
and with the shockproof oils you will never get the shit all out the box when u change back to dexron or something, not that its that bad, but i dont like mixing fluids....and stuff...

there are 2 big bolts in the gear box... 1 at the bottom for drain.. 1 half way up the passenger side, for filling/level check..

yuh i know, but the shock prrof stuff semi solidifies (spelling) into that clag shit, and will reside in the bottom of the box. i dont know if thats bad for the box though.
