in my latest effort to dodge takumi tax, I have acquired an ae71 corolla and am currently shopping for parts to get it drift ready.
just wondering...
1. Would an AE86 jdm diff (zenki or kouki, whichever) bolt straight up??
2.If it doesn't, then can someone pls explain this HiLux diff conversion to me??
3.would aftermarket coilovers/camber tops/castor rods/swaybars etc. designed for the AE86 be a direct fit for the ae71??
Info on any of these issues would be a great help.
Thanks guys http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Dude, I'm pretty sure this has all been covered somewhere, but anyway, ae86 front sus will bolt up, you just need the ae86 steering arms.
As for the rear end you will need the rear half of a t-series tail shaft for the lengths to be right.
Good luck with the ae71 mate

this second part is wrong. you will need an entire ae86 tailshaft to run an ae86/t18 diff. the ae71/ke70 tail shaft is 2 piece in that it has a centre bearing, but the 2 parts do no un bolt like an 86 shaft does. theyre joined permanetly.
you dont and will never need a hilux rear end in your ae71, complete and pointless over kill and a huge expensive job requiring massive maounts of custom work.
i have been running a locked s series in the ke70 for the last 2 months.. no problems yet with alot of abuse.
i would suggest if youre trying to do it cheaply try the stock diff welded. the diffs do have a reputation for weakness, but it is the sun gears that break. theyre not going to break once theyre welded http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif
you can also get a 4.3 for the borg warner too.
its worth a shot.

Oops, sorry for the bumsteer. Hmmm, looks like I need the front half of an ae86 tailshaft then. Crap

all suspension is interchangeable as long as you fit ae86 steering arms

to add to what 20v just said, just to make it simplier... basically anything that fits into a ae86 will fit into a ae71 suspension/drivtrain wise
just a matter of some parts didnt come the same in the ae71 so you have to get the aus spec (or any other version) ae86 bit into it
eg as dimitri sayd, the tailshaft in ae71 is longer as the diff connection is differnt. Still all fits together right.

aaaahahahaha
Umm would a T-series rear end and tail shaft bolt into a KE70?
A T series would be needed if an engine converion is on the cards.

again, anything that fits into ae86 fits into ae71 and ke70.
only differences is the other parts may have to be changed to ae86 parts to fit it in, which fit in anyway

t18(early-which is nearly all) output shaft is the same as a ke70, ae86 output shaft is the same as a ae71(at least for the 5 speeds)

That's what I thought, so an AE71 with a T50 and a T18 T series diff would require a AE86 front half of the shaft+T18 rear half?
Grant.
just tyrin to clear that up for everyone..

"again, anything that fits into ae86 fits into ae71 and ke70. "
could be a bit misleading http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif
especially in regards to pedal boxes! hehe.
