also if dms do infact make a coilover for the ae86 it wont be able to be damper adjustable, at least with out removing the steering knuckle

it has been covered several times on here why the generic china coilovers are crap

dms DO NOT make an ae86 coilover...ive rung them up and checked, even though it does say they do on their website...

and for dms40's look to be paying around 3400-3500 for a set....the bling

they are the shit, but anything that price is...*ohlins*

i can't understand why people keep looking past AJPS stuff, Dave throw some of your stuff in a sponsored car then you'll sell truck loads, looks like a lot of people are looking for something reccommended by a pro, apparantly the positive comments from forum members isn't enough!!!!!

BUY AJPS STUFF, IS THE SHIZNIT YO

i think people are concerned because they are *standard* struts modified, some actually seem to think that the little china men paid in rice actually make good new COILOVERS, they must be better, cause there not standard struts modified etc.....

( oh but takumi never used ajps stuff..........)

General pricing may be a concern to many, with the G4s from just jap setting you back $1500 for a full set where as AJPS for a full set would be at least $2000 including the need for changeover on your old struts? Just a thought. Has anyone had any experiences with the G4s? Good? Bad? Ugly?

there was a thread on them not long ago.. apparently they're not actual coilvers, they just slide over your original strut and sit on your spring seat.. hald by a grub screw..

if thats true, nasssty business.. stay well away.

RobertoX

a front pair of mine is $800, + camber tops $299, then in the rear, springs, $200pr, shocks $150pr, and an adjustable panhard rod $125...

shipping is generally included

so that is cheaper that the $2000... but if you want adjustable damper etc then the prices go up...

i dont use adjustable damper in my car

and yes the d2/g4 design is nasty

the tein stuff is good tho

AJPS coilovers are made by Rex Kellway and he does dodgy work....... My coilovers can only adjust about 10mm each way

and another mates coilovers......The insert moves around heaps side to side inside the strut......

Nice Work[/b]

i hear a whip crackin'

but hopefully not:D perhaps instead said people can have the chance to talk about their products, and perhaps problems their products have had in the past?

if an insert is moving around in the strut casing, one would think that either the casing must be shortened, or a spacer must be added.

and how far it can be adjusted would depend on where the collar was welded on.. so hm..

perhaps these things have been dealt with? http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

never know though.

I've seen Rex's work and found it to be pretty damn good. I was originally going to get him to make me a turbo manifold but managed get one made nearby. He sent me plenty of detailed pics/specs and the design/quality was top notch.

ok...

rex kelway makes my coilovers, a VERY trusted fabricator, the fact that you couldnt afford new sleeves and had to ask for some that had been cut off coilovers from japan has nothing to do with me, they were made by rex, i supplied the struts so you could keep your car on the road

Rex/AJPS offered a REFUND but this was REJECTED by you... so we were to assume you were happy...??

besides that, your car sits perfectly at the front, but i know you are just trying to cause an argument

as for simons coilovers, he approached me about the problem, this is when Steve was fabricating them, i told him i would fix it, but obviously he would have to pull the struts out of the car... i still dont have a strut, and im not a magician

RobertoX
3rd June 2006, 07:58 PM
Ok..... Rex Kelway does produce quality product however in this case Lawson instructed rex to do a dodgy on the coilovers that i ordered......

as for adjustment issues on MY coilovers.....The fabrication is good, however when i recieved the coilovers the sleeves had several large and lots of small chinks ( DENTS ) in the threads on the sleeves.......

and the movement in the insert should have been rectified by AJPS however it was not rectified and rectification of this problem has not been offered by AJPS.....[/b]

i didnt instrut rex to do anything other than make coilovers except using the sleeve YOU selected

as per the other post

i told him i would fix it when i have the coilover in my hand, last time i checked he hadnt done that, on top of the fact his car isnt going anywhere for a while, it obviously isnt of great concern to him

should he bring me the coilover he claims is damaged, i will happily repair it free of charge

you have a real obsession with that fact of the brake calipers being deleted, when in fact it was the THREAD STARTER who deleted, i certainly didnt ask him to, but ill leave this thread as it is, http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

i dont think simon is going to pay steve to rip the coilovers out

and im not going to go into steves workshop and make a car in there immovable, i dont think steve would like that, so it is up to simon to deliver the strut to me then it will be repaired

i deplore censorship of any shape or form.

that said.. i'm rather happy with my springs http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif (well, im happy with all four springs, and my rear shocks, just not my fronts which are too soft, which has nothing to do with you http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif)

Grant.

post script:

what's wrong with shocks and springs? when you have places like AJPS that can have them made up for you, who can also supply shockers to suit (sure they'll be longer stroke and stuff, but if you can get longer stroke ones designed for the increased springrate, hm)

oh yeh and fyi, i don't have anything against mr lawson. i got my springs in 2 (or 1?) days from adelaide to sydney so no complaints.

just very pissed off about the whole scenario where that guy was very angry and mods kept on deleting his post. point is, he had every right to be angry.

so some guy pays the site to be a sponsor, and he rips some guy off and from my p.o.v, mods are letting them get away with it.

Are the AJPS coilovers sleves steel and welded onto the strut or are they alloy and have a steel spacer welded to the strut and the sleeve sits on this. Am interested in the AJPS units as they seem o/k to me.

they are steel sleeves welded to the strut which has been shortened, etc - see www.ajps.com.au for more details

nothing is wrong with shocks and springs, i used to run them for quite some time, but when making the car low, cutting the strut is necessary, this is where it becomes easier to make a coilover

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with these Noby Booth Coilovers and if they could comment on whether or not it's good

they look good and theyt are body/stroke adjustable

there wouldnt be much extra adjustment there as it still gets stopped by the stub axle, and there would be no off the shelf replacement shocks

but they are nice, they are also made up on the factory struts
