ok im not as stupid as the name suggests i do know how basic ones work. theres a certain kind that im a little foggy with tho. the "tuned length" kind. can somebody explain them to me please?

They are designed so that as one pressure pulse from one pipe exits into the collector, and then passes out thus leaving some suction in the collector, the next pulse is just reaching the collector.
They are often incorrectly called 'headers' here, that's a US term, not Aussie.

i thought headers were a race built set of extractors made of something a little more hardcore then regular steel extractors. cast iron i think i heard. sounded pretty reasonable since iv seen pics of glowing red hot exhaust manifolds. but thanx anyway thats helped heaps.. not like that tuned length'd really do anything anyway lol

no, headers = extractors...blame the yanks..

and tuned length ones work alot better than standard ones....it just toyota designed the stock one well enough.

yep the tubular design of the 20v manifold works the best rather than aftermarket ones

that is a disgusting manifold and you should be shot if people think thats going to do something good for your engine......YUK.

i am reffering to the dodgy one, you all know the one i mean

Tuned length, mandrel bent construction with t3 flange with 2 bolt external wastegate to suit tial style wastegates. Performance construction designed to improve exhaust flow and increase top end power over conventional design manifolds

Extractors are NOT the same as turbo manifolds.

Yes a well made, equal length, tuned length turbo manifold will be making use of the pulsing effect described by Bill above. But it is not a set of extractors.
