Word...

Been doing a bunch of research regarding the SW20/AE92 short stroke cartridge "conversion". What I'm wondering is... is it really necessary?

Car is only going to be a ghetto track thrasher. Have some AJPS 6kg springs to go in front that would be classed as superlow. Could I get away with some normal stroke "sports" shocks?

Had some Pedders in my old car and they seemed to do the job fine...any suggestions?

well it all comes down to if you want your springs to be held captive or not

From my experience, if you run anything more than 2" lower in the front with linear rate springs, you really need to go short stroke. the AJPS 6Kg front springs are horrendously un-captive with standard stroke shocks.

I'm buying some SW20 fronts and T3's new spacers that space the top of the shock, not the bottom, so the shock is in the middle of the stroke at rest, instead of being pre-compressed, and having reduced bump travel.

Ah ok cheers bro!
Wasn't aware that T3 were doing such a product but just had a look on the website and saw what ur talking about. Makes a load of sense...

Are you going KYB AGX then? You are using the SW20 fronts not the rears?

the 'advantage' with the front is the spring cant physically fall out

but they can move around a lot and it isnt ideal

do the short stroke thing for sure, those t3 spacers look the goods

so these new t3 spacers can be fitted instead of cutting and shutting a strut tube?

so if i were to use them with my KYB's and coilovers, then i wouldnt need to cut 40mm out of my strut?

please say yes! haha

Ben, I'd say for your rally car you may be losing a bit much stroke, the AE86 stock has 188mm stroke, whereas the SW20 front is 126mm. But in reality the actual travel with the T3 spacers is going to be a fair bit less than that.

sorry to sorta run off topic... but what are the inserts from that the AJPS coilovers use?

the rear TRD are KYB, but the front race shock, Tokico all the way http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

If you ring up castle hill toyota they will cost about $1100 for the set of 4, or about 600 fro the fronts.
Tell them Ben sent you and you might get them cheaper. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

Ben, if its of any help, i have still got the strut top spacers that came off my 1984 GpA Sprinter rally car. They are a chunk of alloy about 25mm thick to raise the car. it used specially made, but stock length Bilsteins coil overs with very long 60mm ID springs.
