some ground connection or posible something stupid like alternator belt not tension correctly
or maybe a alternator problem

I got this problem too. For me, the cause is the headlight switch. In the switch there is a pin for the dash lights, as you turn the switch, the pin runs over a copper strip that powers the dash lights. But my switch is old and starting to lift a bit, so I shoved something in behind the connection to keep it pressed up tight.

BTW, giving the switch a good wack will usually bring the connection back.

Yeah mine wasn't working either so i pulled it apart and cleaned all the copper connections. heaps of black shite builds up on the copper clean that off and check all the soldered joints. I actually just melted the solder and let it cool and it fixed it all up. I also did this on my demistor switch which didn't work all that well and it fixed it.
Or you could buy the one thats on ebay australia for $70 http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/fap.gif

I got my car straight from japan, the right hand side dash light wasn't working. One night not so long ago I went out to QR at night, went over a ripple strip with lights on and it started working http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/happy.gif
Ever since, it's been working, but intermittently the whole dash stops lighting up, I jsut turn off the headlights and turn them abck on and it's all good!
