My airconditioner has fucked itself, and given that i dont really enjoy the extreme heat, i wanna look into retro fitting a new aircondtioner in to the 86. Has anyone ever had any experience with installing a new air con? not just a new stock one, but a whole new designed unit. Ive checked through various 86 forums and cant find anythin.

you can get a universal condensor and fit it yourself just gotta measure one up that similiar and prob have to change some of lines to it then.$1000 is alot for a condensor. while your there change the dryer there cheap as anyways. if your compressors okay then leave it and same for the rest of it. if you wanna change your evaportor then you gotta take your dash out, but pointless if its still workin.

if you wanna new system then it will cost a bare min of $1500 if your lucky

thanks sly thats exactly the info i was after. just wanted to know if anyones put in something bigger/newer then a corolla/sprinter air con. ive been in rollers with properly working air cons and it was still pretty lame compared to say a commodore or camry air con. im prepared to for out more for a beasty air con. im sick of rocking up to work with a shirt drenched with sweat.

well what also helps is sound deadening foam on the roof... makes the car less hot http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif but otherwise you could always put ur windows (and ur accellerater foot) down for some air con? http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif thats what i do

im an air con mechanic dude and u cant put a bigger condenser or compressor in because the evaporator in ur dash isnt big enough. trust me, these things are designed to be the size they are for a reason. iv got an old condenser in my spoontah with no compressor, im sure someone else would have the same. if u want it colder get someone to put lpg in it, fukn heaps better and way colder just dont tel anyone coz it aint spose to be in there http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

wear some really big tidy widys n pack them full of dry ice? ok il stop wit tha bullshit but seriously hachi aircon's are pretty inefficient anyway a good idea would be to concentrate on keeping the heat out in the first place? car cover? paint ur car white? head absobing foam as i said above? and where the hell r u parking the car to get it hittin 43 degree heat?

office car park has no shade at all. in summer a sun shade really doesnt cut it. im gonna get it tinted first.

V8 supercar drivers (pushrod four door family hack racers) have a race suit that has a series of channels and pipes in it alowing cold water to be circulated through it keeping the driver cold in the hotter endurance races. Get one of these an eski behind the drivers seat full of ice and a pump of some sort and your set.

But seriously a used condensor won't cost much and LPG had not heard of that one but might work great. Is LPG compatible with the oil in a/c system, if so which oils?

Victoria uses lpg in their a/c, its just not legal anywhere else. it uses like 200-300 grams so its not dangerous considering u can store 60 litres in ur boot http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/blink.gif and its legal. compatible with all oils, it has a lower density so dont charge it up as much as normal refrigerant, it runs at lower head pressures so its more friendly on ur radiator and can run it at about -10 degrees if setup right. i used it in my old car and couldnt put my feet in the footwells because it hurt it was so cold. word of warning tho, change EVERY seal in the system cause lpg is notorious for leaking. just charge it till the suction line starts to sweat and is about 100-200 Kpa at 1200rpm. Piece of piss, enjoy.
