search.. this has been covered multiple times..

just so my post isn't totally useless..

on my GZE i used a custom NPC clutch, 4 puck, sprung centre, 200mm dia, with an excedy h/duty pplate beefed up about an extra 40%.. great for breaking axles/crownwheels/T-50's... could have just been the way i was racing.. but you do have to go considerably crazy with a 200mm dia, as it is quite small to work with.. and it is no where near as harsh as some of the 4/5 puck solid centers i've driven.. this feels like a normal clutch.. just bites all the time..

I used a custom NPC clutch and fried it within a week or so.. The major issue is the 200mm flywheel. So now going billet flywheel with 4g63 pressure plate at 2600lbs, should hold.

if you ride a puck style, ceramic clutch on hill starts etc, it will die and slipp all the time.. when your putting the clutch together use thinners to wipe over all the friction surfaces!! a few times!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif mine with the GZE was great..

what sort of clutch was it michael?

i used an organic heavy duty behind my 4act, stacks of thrashing 2nd gear burn outs, 4gear clutch kicks, no worries http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

i'll tell everyone once.. if you don't use a sprung center.. ie solid center.. you will break the AE86 driveline quite easily..

do a crazy pplate, and 4 puck style clutch but keep it a sprung center.. for the street sake, and your gearbox!! you'll have a little bit lesser chance of killing it.. quickley at least.. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

It was a 4 puck carbonic with sprung centre. Running 1600lbs pressure. Thought it would hold..
Its not quite time to sell up.

if your gonna go the w58 just hold off till you get the w58 and do it all,
i got 4 puk 3000 lbs and its never been good and ive never dropped clutch or smashed gears being a t50 i dont wana brake it yet (just dyno box for now) its slipps on power speicly from 3rd to 4th and the shifter moves when its on power http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif.
it all depends on how much power your gonna end up with.
i say go w58

But you could just throw a hardcore clutch in it now and get the splines on the disc changed when the w58 box goes in. Saves a lot of cash. It doesnt matter what box you have, its all about the flywheel size.
So your saying your 3000lbs clutch slips?? How much power you making?

michael, it took me once or twice to get it right.. think mine is about 2100lbs.. and that holds beautifully..

If you can, Always use the 212 mm flywheel clutch behind any 4A. Toyota upgraded it for a reason!! For any given friction material / pressure plate combo, it will hold more torque than the equivalent 200mm clutch as there is more friction surface area. It won't get as hot either. For a NA 4A a sprung full face organic clutch disc and higher clamp load pressure will almost always hold up.

Behind my 20V I run a 212mm Xtreme Lightened Flywheel (4.1Kg), Xtreme Clutch 700Kg Pressure Plate and a sprung Exedy organic clutch disc. I have no clutch problems at all.

For Forced induction, I would use the same flywheel/pressure plate setup and use a sprung centre "cushioned ceramic" which have 8 small ceramic pucks per side on what looks like a normal clutch disc. they take up a lot nicer than a 4 puck brass or ceramic (no stalling while trying to drive sedately in front of your G/F lol) and have almost the same torque handling ablility.
