Think 60's, 70's Nascar styling (i.e. huge numbers, decals everywhere, big blocky solid colour graphics) and apply it to ancient Japanese sedans in an exaggerated fashion.

Subtle boso fuckin rules, im planning on applying certain boso flavours to my car (upturned exhaust, scraping low, small and fat wheels, camber etc). if you ever go onto auszoku forum... go to the general section and theres a welcome post... has a light run down about why yankee and boso terms are used... where it all comes from... etc...
the style comes from the late 70's early 80's Gr.5 racing cars... espically the nissan Dr30, S110, S12 and 910 also there was a ta22 in that forumla as well.
nothing to do with red necks or ricers, altho the main people i hear from my jap mate are gang member and jap bogans.
ricers started in the states arod http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif jk.
arod
22nd May 2007, 12:38 AM
Oh I totally agree!! all ricers came from here!! and there are TOO many of them here!! all running around in their moms bone stock honda's with the baby seat in the back, muffler cut off, stickers all over it sounding like a lawn mower on steroids!! trying to race what ever they see that moves! because they're so cool!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif and if they lose the race they swerve at you give you the finger and throw shit you!! FUCKERS!!! HAHA!!
I kick their ass im my Denali and when they go to throw shit at me they run off when they see my Glock .40 looking at them!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif I hate those assholes!!
xsoarerx
22nd May 2007, 12:46 AM
thats nuts... they seriously get that cut? whats the point... honda ego... http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tdn.gif and whats honda given us... not much, the only honda i would get would be a 80's city... they can only carry like 400kg so they decided to twin charge a 600cc engine (think thats right?) radness!
im glad i havnt run into anyone like that here in oz as of yet.. (touch wood) but im sure theres a few over here. mainly in holdens.
arod
22nd May 2007, 12:52 AM
yea its really like that most all ricers here have also gotten the reputation of being all thieves!! I swear all the ones that i know have at least one stolen part in their garage or on their car!! and at least 2 hondas in my area are stolen every night!! 1 out of every 3 hondas in this area are never recovered either!! they just disappear!!
and you're right honda ego!! thats al it is!!

Yes that influence is self evident today, but I reckon you'll definitely find earlier there was a trend for nascar inspired styling, window braces, yank tuner decals and similar. The other side of it is IMSA racing, basically the american Group 5, certainly an influence. Given the colloquial term Yankee I find it hard to believe there isn't some influence from American racecar styling in the 70's and 80's.

this is what junkers said on the auszoku forum, which adds to the rasion for the term yankee.
The people who originally drove those sort of things back in their heyday were most commonly 'Yankees' (young (i.e. late teens early 20s) delinquents with crazy Elvis hair called 'punch perms')[/b]

Japanese Stock Car racing from the late 60's early 70s - a lot like aussie improved production of the same time - cedrics, crowns and such in full battle paint, slick shod, on fat rims...
