heyas, i just put some lowered springs into my hachi, not too low, just so the stockies fill the gaurd nicely http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif
But the ride has become really rough and bumpy. im not sure on the spring rate (theyre softer than trd springs) , but i hear im supposed to cut the bump stops. im not sure if im getting bump steer.. its just at some bumps i find myself leaving the seat.. ill be taking the front struts out again to change my front shocks, so while im under there im thinking i should shorten the bump stops too.
so yeh any helpful input on the situation would be appreciated
thanks

i always assume people know this. i didnt even read you post but yes the rear bump stops have to be cut down on even a mildy lowered hachi. just cut them down to the last nodule. if you look at them youll see what i mean.
use a hack saw.

narh.. i guess i sussed my way around fitting springs with my mate and bro. but we didn think of cutting the bump stops. didn really know too much about lowerings and stuff.. all the mates i know pay shops to do theirs (or they got adj coilovers) so they wouldnt know half the stuff that got done. theyd juss know its fully low yuleh and have to go diagonally through speed bumps super slow 2 be cool.
thanks for the help sly, ill be doing this tomorrow if i dont hit any snags.

definately cut them down, id suggest using a wood saw purely because you will cut through faster.
when i first lowered my car i didn' cut down the bumpo stops and it skipped all over the place.

I used a brand new blade, you know the ones like razor blades only longer.
Stanley knife but longer. Sliced straight thru it.

I agree with slydar, I used a knife on mine, my car was erratic before I did that. For the fronts I just chopped the shroud off and kept part of the middle lump

so the rears definitely have to be shortened. so how bout the fronts, is that necessary too?

you need some sort of bump stop there, otherwise you will destroy your shocks the first time you run over a gutter or something. i only have one segment on the front of mine and i'm a little it nervous about that happening

Sometimes you need to soak wd40 or similar for that nut. Seeing as it has probably never been removed before you can bet she's dug in like an alabama tick.
Or a swift hit with a hammer and chisle should help loosen it up.
Ive never used that front rubber thingy ma jiggy. Its only for dust isnt it. lol

hey i bought these shocks off a forum member and told they were ae86 replacement monroe gas shocks.. But when i removed the stock liquid shocks from the strut i found the new shocks were a bit to long and that shock bolt thingo wouldnt fit back in. am i supposed to modify the strut or do something different when putting the shock in?

top is new, bottom is old.

There are a few different top nuts for the shock tube, depending on the shock used. you could either go to a pick n payless type wreckers and go looking through other cars with the same type of strut nut to find one that suits, or you could go see Toyota. Have fun

aftermarket strut inserts generally come with their own gland nuts, you cant use the stock ones as they are designed to be used with the "wet leg" setup.
