Hi guys, I just bought a silvertop 20v with a T-50 gearbox and Wolf3d Version 3 ECU. My question is has anyone had any experience with this now obsolete ECU? Is it any good for this engine? I know it will run it but how well is the question because I don't want to spend all the money for wiring it up and installation by professionals only for it to not run the 20v at its best.
Any info would be great.
oh and yoshimitsu; you had mentioned a place in ringwood (melb) that does all this wiring and programming shit...could you chuck their details my way if you read this or i'll probably pm ya
Cheers,
Nasso

I'm a little skeptical of the above opinion. Maybe they are getting old have board problems, but it seems unlikely to me.
However as far as basic funstions go you should be fine. Check it has the required aux output to run the VVT. Also check what idle speed controller the 20V uses and what the V3 supports.
But as for running the engine, it will do it exactly as well as your tuner can tune it.
So as may be clear from the above, if you have it then I think you should use it.

PS, did you buy all that as a package from Toyospares?

Also if you want some real info call AEM, the guys who make Wolf, they should be able to help with tech stuff. Also I've found the guys at Speed Technology in Mitcham (9873 5400) have been very helpful with Wolf support in the past. Plus they tuned my car well.

thanks for your help Hen...yes it does have the option for vvt output and i have to double check the idle speed control thing...how hard you guys reckon it would be for me to wire it up on my own? i'm not completely clueless but i'm scared i'll blow up my engine and thats not good coz i'm a poor shmuck http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif

Wiring it up yourself is a total piece of cake. Time consuming to get it right, but easy to do.
If you can use a soldering iron (or crimper), side cutters and a stripping tool then you are home and hosed. It also helps to have the manual for the ECU so you know what each pin should be connected to.
If I ever had a free weekend I'd offer to help, however currently that wouldn't be before late January some time.

i certainly can use all that stuff and have a little auto-elec know-how...and thanks for the offer for help and i fully understand how busy this time of year is coz i'm the same with my work up until after christmas...my engine will be going in either before christmas or early january anyway so more on that soon hehe..
also i'm quite concerned as to the condition of the engine coz it came out of a sprinter and hasn't been run for a year (apparently)...so i'm worried maybe if it was in a sprinter it was used as a drift car and i really don't want any internal damage http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/huh.gif
EDIT: oh yeah i just rang those guys in mitcham and spoke to Steve...what a very helpful guy...he just basically told me that this is an old ecu and as such the newer ones have a few better features mainly to do with being able to use a pc with them....but he was nice coz he didn't try to get me to buy one of his new versions of Wolf's, instead said the same thing as you..."use it since you have it and you'll probably be quite pleased coz we have installed lots of those on 4age's in the past and customers were happy as larry".
they're a tad on the expesive side though but you can tell that they will do mad work

nah, i bought it off ke25_racer on this forum...helpful bloke (if you can get him on the phone!) i got a quote from my mechanic today that he'll rip out my 4ac and bolt in the 20v for $400 provided he doesn't run into any major problems (whereby the price goes up obviously) but i think it should be right coz this 20v came out of a sprinter so it should be straight forward for him...after that all i have to organise is an eshaust system and wiring the ECU and programming
...i'll do without the "its not that easy" comments please coz i know but i like to think there won't be any hickups coz it helps me sleep at night http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/blink.gif
