when the car settles into a good idle right on 750rpm. sometimes the standard oil pressure gauge sits right on the lower line for oil pressure.but most the times it sits between the two lines in the middle meaning its got higher oil pressure.still in normal range. what could cause this besides the sender bein faulty?
oil gallery blocked?

cheers

large clearances, can cause low oil pressure. Worn oil pump, but also your gauge may be faulty.

yeah thats the thing the oil pressure seems high. not low

i would get a test oil pressure gauge and plug that straight into the side of the block, that way you will have an accurate reading of what the engine is doing and you dont ahve to rely on a 20 year old gauge to tell you whats going on. but your sender may also be inaccurate to.

also i would check:
the oil pressure regulator spring and valve as that may be stuck open allowing excessive amounts of oil through the lubrication system and causing high pressures

assuming your running a 4age without being told
oil pressures are:
@ idle 4.3psi/29kpa
@3000rpm 36-71psi/245-490kpa

i wouldn't be concerned with oil a little on the high side... on the low side i'd be worried! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

perhaps the relief valve isnt opening properly....that would cause the high pressure

You in brisbane? I'll rebuild you an oil pump if you want...

(Clean up, machine gears, new valve and spring)

now worries for the jack wanabe_garage, more the merrier.

i was thinkin it could be the oil filter i used maybe http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/dry.gif its not the big vo7 valvoline one. i used a z442 same as in a silvia. it was between the ones listed for a twincam corolla. i found the two listed to use, one too big and the other too small http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

whats ya guys think?

you can also get away with a Z411, but i dont think the oil filter is going to cause your pressures to be high.
it wont hurt changing it though

You complain about your oil pressure yet you dont use the specified part.

Before we start shooting off about rebuilt oil pumps this that and the other,

why dont you use a z386 or equivelent with 40/10, 40/15 or 30/10 synthetic oil, then check your pressure.

50/20 is a little to thick for a healthy 4age(not that it would hurt it), assuming you have no clereance issuess.

10w30... are you for real!? maybe on a rebuilt 4age with clearences on the tight side.. eg .25 ex/ .15 in shim clearences.. the correct weight for all 16V 4age's in our climate in australia, quoted by toyota in the toyota hand book for 4age equipped rolla's is 20w50... if you live in very very cold climates constantly.. then you should use a thinner oil..

SLY - how many km's has this engine done?
