I have assembled all the parts required to do a full 4 wheel S13 brake conversion on my sprinter.

I have machined the sprinter hubs so the S13 rotors fit over the top, and installed longer studs, the rear drum ass has been removed (T series out of a celica) and the brearing retainers have been modified ect. I have a full set of overhauled calipers, 4 new slotted rotors and a full set of EBC Greenstuff pads.

The next step is to get the mounting brackets machined up. I have taken all the messurements and drawn the brackets in AutoCad so it should be quite easy to get a machine shop to make them for me, my question is this,

What materials should the brackets be made out of. The factory ones look like they are made out of high tensile steel. Would stainless or alloy be strong enough??

Or does anyone know if these items are available to purchace, as this would prob save a lot of hassle and more than a little cash. As these are prototypes only, the design may well need to be changed and another set of brackets machined. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

Many thanks,

This is what I was thinking, billet alloy, light and prob quite strong. Should be easy to machine as several prototypes may have to be made to get everything spot on.

i don't think it would pass engineering on a road car..

all brake mounts i have seen on all production road cars, etc use steel to mount the caliper..

a steel caliper mounted to alloy.... with the thread in the alloy.. can't see it lasting on such an application... just use steel.. the thickness of alloy you wil have to use might actually come close to the weight of a much thinner steel bracket.

Agree with Matty http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tup.gif , Steel the only option.

Looked at alloy when doing my RX7 adapter brackets, a section in the middle of the bracket would have had mabe 8mm thick alloy, just not enough strength. Cast aluminium is stronger than milled, but it would be hard to find/make castings for what you are after.

I just milled regular tool steel, turned out sweet as.
