Hi all,

The lighing for my intrumentation/gauges went out today.
Theres no light coming on when I have the headlights on.

Does anyone know if this is as simple as a bulb replacement or a bit more difficult and costly?

I was driving today and i noticed my stereo went out (Powered off) then powered itself back in about 10 secs.

then I noticed the dash light was out. Cos this be a fuse that blew thats affecting it?

All the other lights are still fine...

Any input would be great.. I havent been brave enough to take out the dash to see.

its possibly the headlight switch, have a go at that, but from memory you will ahve to partially pull out the cluster to get at the switches anyway.

there are 4? bulbs for lighting, you would be pretty unlucky to blow all of them at the same time.

when i bought mine i had no dash lights, so pulled the dash apart and "speedo & dials" box out/

tested circuitry with 1 one those "light pens" (the light up if there getting power) everything, there was nothing wrong with it so *i think* from memory we swapped fuses, and light bulbs to find the dodgy part, cant remember which 1 it was, as it was ages ago

goodluck!

Thanks Guys..

As roadsailing mentioned, there are 4 bulbs, pretty unlikely all 4 would blow at the same time.

Dori.. you wouldnt happen to know where the fuse was located?

By far the most common cause of the dash lights being out, is someone has turned down the dimmer switch! Find the knob and your away again http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

Otherwise it will most likely be the fuse. But why did it blow to start with?

Probably because of the custom radio install. That is the only dodgy part. The rest of your wiring will be good. There is a exposed wire from your sterio that hits something and shorts out sometimes and blows the fuse.

mine has done it twice now! Both times it has been the headlight switch! if you pull it out an have a look at the back of it there is a circuit board which comes out the back of the switch, wobble that with the switch connected and on and see if you dash lights come on or not!! When i pulled mine out someoone had put cable ties around the board the hold it in place one of them had slipped so i replaced it and it worked well!

Thanks Guys..

Took oit back to strathfield installation guy this morning.
appears that the wriing was shoritng and blowing the fuse.

Has the wires insulated and fuse replaced.
All good now!:)

My dash lights only work when they wanna. Most nights I drive in the dark, but some times I'll hit a bump and they'll come on... and then hit another bump and it'll be gone.

There is a wire hanging down in the footwell that might be related to this, but.

Sorry I can't help, I have the same problem.

Sounds like you need to clean the copper contacts inside the circuit board area behind the head light switch.
