Just looking into the shock options for the front of the ae86,

going to run ~6kg fronts springs, prob ajps ones...so pretty low i guess

what i know is that people have used the sw20 rears, but what i dont know is what mods are needed to the strut to make them usable...

from what ive read u need to space to bottom to lift them up or cut the strut, or both....
i dont want to have to cut anything, can you just space the bottom of the insert all the way till the shock sits at the top ? is this a good or bad idea ?
also the standard nut fit/hold the shock inplace ? (gland nut is it called ?)

just after some details on what to do if i buy the shocks and want to get em in myself, and the best options for doing it

cheers

If you are going to have the car lowered, the springs will not be captive unless you also use shorter shocks. You can use shorter shocks and just use a spacer at the bottom, but the issue is they will still not be short enough and the springs still wont be captive. Or you could have the same spacer at the top of the shock tube, and the shock will be short enough to hold the springs captive. The only probalem then would be you could run out of travel, and hit the bump stops. But I think it should be ok.

It seams the best/most common/club4ag solution is to cut the strut 40mm shorter, and use a 20mm spacer at the bottom. (measure this, it may be a few mm either way depending on your shock brand) And use shocks to suit USA AE92, or ST162, ST185 or similar. + coilovers.

ive seen the t3 nut/spacer on thier website, anyone using one currently ?

any one sell em here ? or if i got them direct from t3 how much have people paid postage, and how long it take to arrive ?

so i 'could' just space the shock at the bottom to sit flush at the top, but spring still wont be captive even with the shorter stroke of the mr2 item ?

and stock gland nut can be used with the spacers ? ... i really dont want to cut it ...

AJPS sells them, the point of the gland nut/spacer combo is to make that shock a usable option. as in it will have the required travel and act as a short stroke shock (as in it will hold the springs captive)

yeah i have the spacers, the piston is at least 2 inches shorter, even with my spacer

'ideally' it would be good to havea small spacer at the top and one at the bottom

half mine half t3 lol!

ok so if i had a strut made for tokico hts and i wanted to run sw20 shocks i would need a spacer at the bottom of 20mm? or only daves spacer?

With all the different combinations, you had better just measure it yourself. A AE86 strut shortened 40mm is still going to fit most short stroke shocks. Make the spacer yourself to suit.
