Ok since I have moved my battery to the boot/inside the car I have a problem where anytime I try to jumpstart the car it blows the starter fuse... did the same thing when I just tried to start it while I still had a battery charger hooked up as well...

When I moved it I replaced the fuse/terminal thing with a inline fuse holder with the barrel shaped fuses (car audio style one)... everything is the same as before, all the fuses are the same amperage and so fourth... everything works fine if the battery has enough juice in it to start the car, but if its to drained (as my car hasnt been getting driven alot lately) and I try to jump start it in the typical fashion it pops the starter motor fuse (60A) wtf...?

The only changes made to the whole set-up are the inline fuse holder and a new battery with 480 CCA's oposed to the 270 CCA battery that was there previously....

If anyone can shed some light on this that would be greatly appreciated..

Cheers

I was under the impression that the starteer wasn't fused (... just checked wiring diagrams and that's right, it's unfused). It can pull some pretty damn large currents (sketchy 200+A from memory).

I'd say your fuse is too small. Try a 250A one (may be very hard to find).

Yeh just got some response's similar on HR... might try it without a fuse or try to find a big ass one.... but there was a 60a fuse to the starter on the terminal fuse thing that was originally there....
who the fuck knows...... confusing but simple...

Actually now that I think about it I think I know what I did... http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
there were 3 fuses on the terminal clamp originally........... and when I bought the inline fuse holder it had provisions for 4 fuses so I just chucked a 60a in...
but somehow that dosnt seem right to me.. I wouldnt do that .. I dont think.. fuck was too long ago... Im gona go sus out the original fuse terminal and see wtf I did.......... http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wtf.gif http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/crazy.gif

what size + cable are you running now?

by increasing the length of cable you increase its resistance...you may be pulling too many amps for the original fuse to take

4 Gauge... its all good though, problem fixed.. just wired it up without the fuse... (which I dont think was there anyway lol)
