I once thought for about 1 second my chemical romance wasa good band then i realised thay onley sound like every other emo band out , sure you might say "LOLOLOL BUT TOM HE HAS GOOD VOICE U FOOL" yeh sure half of these people do but not when every song is just a carbon copy of the other and the idea that rebeling against conformity is best done by dressing exactley the same is lame as[/b]

It's more the fact these 'bands' have little (if any) musical substance and are marketed to the depressed 13-17 year old crowd, and all dress black. That makes them Emo. And coincidentally, makes them suck.

Now to reinforce my point about them being marketed to depressed 13-17 year olds, I was unfortunately near the MCR set at the Big Day Out last week. I did not see anyone near the age of 18 and surprise surprise, they were all wearing black too.

Not trying to say you shouldn't like them or anything.. just pointing out why they get so much ridicule, and most certainly will continue to for a long time. I can see the whole 'emo' thing ending up a lot like the glam scene of the 80's.

fair call, they are all the same, but to say they have little or no musical substance is a bit far, most of those bands are remarkably talented and lets face it, it takes alot of effort to get as good as these people are on thier instruments. this argument will never end because people will always have different oppinions, but anyone who says AFI, MCR, The Used etc have no talent or musical substance is just ignorant and pig headed, sure its marketed to teens, but classical music is marketed to older people..... does that make it any worse? i think anyone who wishes to speak there oppinion on this subject should have some musical background to justify it. its like someone who doesnt know jack bout cars sayin toyotas suck........ just cos its not a holden. think about the other side of things and maybe try to understand that altho you dont like it, it may still have its merits.

Question, if they hav no musical substance, how do they get to where they are...being known and touring globally? I went to there concert and sorry to burst ur bubble but the age group extended beyond 17 years old. Just cause u may not agree doesnt mean their no good. They stated themselves there not emo. anyway wats the def of emo?? wearing black.....? haha. music is a very powerful tool and comes from the artists emotions and feelings.

um afi have been around a few decades the used to be hard core ska punk and before that punk i have a cd from fat records from the early90s with afi.
the way they dress may suck but as time changes so do fads and in order to stay at the top they need to change to.
