Hey all.

just thowing an idea out there for some feedback and also for some of you to give some tech advise that i may not already know.. as per the title im looking at whats involved in converting a 1MZFE 3.0L out of a camry into an 86. im aware of the new engine mounts and also possible sump mods.. also the need for new inlet manifold and extractors.

was thinking of mating the motor up to a W5X series box with custom bellhousing...

do not bag out this idea.. i dont mind posts stating how hard it may be... but dont bag it out for the sake of havin a whinge..

cheers

Talk to Gianttomato on toymods. He has (had??) plans for one of these into an early Corona.

From memory:
- The usual custom mounts
- Clearance for intake to brake booster/clutch master was an issue
- He has designs for a plate to adapt MZ block to simulate R series block (bolt on W50 or W55+)

I was thinking about this but a ke70 instead and i asked around my local mechanic shops and what not and they said there might be a issue with oil pooling in the head as the engine is on quite a lean in a camry and it would be vertical in a rwd format, They might have been talking through there ass but its something to think about.

I think GT was doing it for the VZ series motors, not the MZ motors. The VZ series is an iron mloc 60degree V6, in different capacities - 1VZ 2.5L, 2VZ 3L, 3VZ 3.4L. They have similar internals to the UZ series motors = big strength. They do weigh a little bit though.

The MZ was apparently more difficult due to starter motor location and some other nasty problems. It's also a newer motr, so it cost a bit more, and had weaker internals.

^^^ Yes you're right. I just noticed it was the VZ he was toying with.

yea i was reading about the oil pooling problem previously.

do u have any idea how much heavier the VZ series motors are? would be interesting to see a comparison...

to google i go!!!

4age is 125 odd kg? how much do the alloy block v6's weigh?

Note that the VZ series V6 also comes in north-south in older 4-Runners, yes? And Prado? forgot now. But this motor has very different heads to the motor in the VZV20 Camry. This is the iron block motors. The 4Runner motor does not have a great reputation.

The 1MZ-FE is alloy block in MCV20 and MCV36 Camrys and the like.

I imagine oil pooling problems can easily be addressed if you have the thing apart on a engine stand, make a good edjucated inspection, and drill some holes.

If I had to do some crazy conversion like that, I would use a HiLux motor that was already north-south with the propper gearbox. Consider a late model HiLux 3RZ-FE motor (2.7 liter 4 cyl twincam) with turbo kit! They already come with W56 gearbox. Or the V6 that comes in a late model HiLux, although probably not cheap. Still cheaper than converting a Camry V6.

With the effort taken to convert a FWD motor, it maybe better to use a old 1UZ-FE V8.
