View Full Version : Custom Intake Manifold - Plenum Chamber

At the moment I'm using an fwd manifold on a 4agze (turbo) and want to build my try and build a custom intake manifold/plenum chamber. From what I have been told for a force induction intake is to be around 2.5x the engine size. So using my head 1.6x2.5= 4 liters. I will also be using trumpets inside the plenum for better flow.

Has anyone made or designed one before.

The next question that I is what size throttle body are people using for an upgrade and what car is it from.

All help is appreciated….

It's not a simple field. I personally think you'd have to do pretty well to outdo a stock inlet manifold.

Here's some reading:
1 (http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7600)
2 (http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6525)

And Mattyshop talks about his mate's 3SGTE with homemade trumpets. I'm sure he'll have some enlightening info.

I agree with Hen its hard to miss a stock modified N/A manifold, cheap too.

Thats for the links, very interesting stuff....

i also agree with the sentiments above, i have a few good friends with very modified engines that are taking their custom plenums off in favor of the standard units.

just curious, when you say 'modified' to what extent?? bigger throttle body??

just doing a bit of research atm..

by modified he means cut n shut.... throttle body moved to the other end,,,,,if you want a proper rwd intake manifold with throttle body i can get 1 for 200 dollars... let me know

i already have a factory rwd manifold.. and am selling a cut n shut manifold for $150... http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

i was refering to improving on the standard rwd manifold..

eg, putting a larger ID trottle body, or maybe some other ideas out there?!?!

james I dont think changing the throttle body size would help at all. Even if you did you would have to enlarge the hole all the way through because the hole in the manifold is not big enough. The 4age manifold isnt a bad peice of gear

yep totally understand and agree,

just curious..

another Q: how many people are still using the standard manifold and making 200rwkw??

i just heard a while ago that the standard manifold wouldn't make much over 150kw, although i have proven this wrong repeatably.

thanks

I have seen this multiple times, are you sure they wernt taking about non turbo? because it does become a restriction after a certain amount of power in an NA aplication

Someone one correct me if im wrong, but im sure JEM'S 4agte in moorebank Sydney runs at around 260rwkw with stock rwd manifold.

they were talking about FI, although i believe this informant to be misleading in his 'facts'...

i can confirm that adams 4agte does make in excess of 260rwkw, but i cant recall if he was using standard manifold..

a stock 3SGTE manifold with the gay TB blowing straight into the side of the plenum is happy to flow 200wkw...

It seems that the stock manifold will and does work very well in NA form but the original question is, how good is the stock manifold with FI...

i have 190kws at the wheels 4agte and the stock intake manifold (cut and shut smallport one) is doing me just fine, no restriction yet. and i highly doubt it will become one.
