Hi

Took my TCA off the car as they are knackered but the Toyota dealer wants a lovely £137 +vat per side!! ($340 your money per side plus VAT!!)http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

At this price any ideas on somewhere I can get a NEW set of aftermarket ones that are adj etc, as may aswell seeing as they are so much for Toyota items.

Links would be cool too.

cheers

http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif no idea what you are talking about Adam http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

i suspect they might be what we call Lower control arms (LCA's)

this is front right? joins the strut to the crossmember? if so there are aftermarket adjustable rose jointed items available here through AJPS. we normally upgrade to a longer arm such as our XT130 corona or another local mitsubishi Sigma.

what you would do over there i don't know

Sounds like what we would call trailing arms over here, you can buy a 4 link kit which would probably work out around the same sort of money I reckon.

I think it's amazing they are still available genuine!

i'll take a stab in the dark and say he's talking bout trailing arms, AJPS sells adjustable ones for around 600ish AUD as a rough guess, memory sucks the big one tho.
hope that sheds some light on the matter

its the circled areas in PINK! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif

The part that connect the ends of the front ARB and the steering knuckles.

I dont want anything that makes loads of camber (like the sigmas) as already have caber top mounts and Neg Roll Centre Adj.

Cheers

whats knackered about them?

unless you have hit gutters with both arms, all you need to do is replace the bushes and balljoints, as these are the only bitst hat do anything. i did it recently used corona arms as these guys have mentioned) and it cost about 60 bucks in parts (plus the cost of the arms)

You cant, the TCA or 'Lower control arms' are replaced as one unit.

The busng can be replaced sure, but thats not wahts busted, its tha part that joins onto the steering knuckle as this is part of the actual arm.

Its quite 'notchy' and here, that wont pas the MOT test we have.

lower control arms are NOT replaced as one unit, unless they are bent to shit, you are talking to people who have actually done what you say can;t be done!

scrape the dirt and grease and shit off, you will see that they are replacable dude!

Either way, Toytal what £137 + vat and the cheapest motor factors want £125+VAT thats per side!!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/sad.gif

All I want now are aftermarket, rosejointed type. I have a Corolla Manual and it says that they are to be replace as one unit so.... I am just going buy what it said and thats how Toyota and the Motor factor seel em to.

so, for aftermarket.

Whats the score and where can I get em from??

Cheers lads., http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

See that bit where the screwdriver is in the 1st pic? That whole assembly pops out leaving you with a hole in the LCA. That's the ball joint and it is replaceable without doing the whole arm. It'll cost you like $30-40 to get them replaced.

And if you still dont believe us...

if the ball joint is worn out, you will tell when heaps of black tarish grease comes out and jizzes all over your hand http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

If you move the balljoint around and it isn't smooth then they need replacing. Go to your local parts supplier and ask for lower control arm ball joints. And do the bushes with some norothane bushes. Get the old ones pushed out at your mechanics. Don't bother doing them your self, to much hassel. You could also get the open side of the lca's boxed in while youve got them out as well. Then they'll pritty much never bend.
