is this normal??? from what i can see.. it's a stock as a rock S/T 20V, has the dash out of the front cut in it.. and the speedo drive is all hooked up like factory... why the hell does it flip off the tacho!!!!??? where is the factory limiter ment to be??

i have tried an autometer sport comp tacho on this.. just incase the factory tacho wasn't correct... and same thing... off just past 9K... obviously i don't drive it there often if at all!!

vid attached driving in 1st gear.. should be able to open with WMP or quicktime.. it's a 3GP file off my phone.. only 50kb...

Just out of interest, do you think power is increasing with revs over 8000 or is power dropping off alot? Impressive in anycase.

I would expect the factory rev limiter to come in well before 9000 but I don't have experience with this ecu.

it doesn't seem to make more power.. if anything it does drop off a little.. but it's quite linier.. like most variable cam type 4cyls.. just seems to pull the same.. without the typical 4AGE wait.. wait.. there you go!!! yeeha!! type feeling..

could it be that mine is a different generation?? the quads on mine have 2 accel linkage things.. and the front cut was a manual.. so it's not a kickdown??

i have heard there are 2 versions of the ST 20V??? how can you tell them apart??

different versions had that different linkage. The only other difference can be the intake manifold. Other than that yeah its all the same. There is no way that any 4a ecu should let it rev more than 8200- black or silver.

maybe this could just be one of those 'chipped' or modded ecu's?? from some jap tuner garage??? i dunno... i just won't take it past about 8K... will see where the power is on a dyno to see where to take it to i spose?

yeh but you should see the wiring job in this car........ it has lasted for 3 years... twist and tape style.... i'm scared to pull the wires away to get to the ecu!! i disco'd the circut opening realy from the fuel pump last time i moved some stuff and blew the efi main fuse... took me a while to figure that out (thanks Ant).. then kicked myself in the arse as it was that simple!!

If you look under the plastic covers (where is says twincam 20) you will see a grid engraved with dots. Use this to find the date everything was made, then you can confirm if its early/late model.

I think you do have a lever or cable place for auto kickdown, its just not used.

i thought the second linkage was for cruise control?

i had a mate with a similar "problem" it was a blacktop 20v auto loom and ECU Sam wired it, had no limiter http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

maybe a result of the wiring job, somehow?? though i was of the opinion that the speed sensor governs the limiter and you have that connected and sorted. mine wasn't in my 70 and revved to 7500.

oh yeah FWD is ghey Matty http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif
