My speedo hasn't been working for ages and I worked out that it wasn't the cable or the gauge, so I got myself another speedo drive.

Today I drained the oil and pulled out the old drive, and the edges of the teeth on the gear do look pretty stuffed, but what has me worried is what I found in the oil...

Sorry for the poor quality, but you get the idea.
Does anyone who has pulled a T50 apart before know what this clip is/does? Could it be the reason that I have no speedo?

Thanks Guys

I also recognise the clip. You will have to take your gearbox apart.

You may get away with taking the shifter housing off the gearbox, but this may be hard to do with the gearbox in the car, you could try.

Your white plastic speedo drive will be freespinning on the output shaft. I think maybe there is also another clip the same, and a ball bearing holding the speedo drive in place.

You're a champion Matt-AE86!
Thanks for your reply Johnny, I had a feeling it was gonna be off the output shaft of the gearbox, but was hoping it wasn't.

It was the clip shown by the red arrow.

My next query is, to get it out I sorta turned it as I pulled and it came out, is there supposed to be a thread or anything? or do I just knock it straight back into the box as slight interfernce fit.

edit:
YAY! I have a speedo/odo again. It felt a bit loose when it went in, but isn't leaking, so thats good http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/biggrin.gif
