Put a balljoint splitter (from Repco etc) on it whilst it is in a vice then hit the side of the steering arm hard with a hammer. Will then pop off. Sometimes easy, sometimes VERY hard. The balljoint rod is a taper fit, don't be tempted to bash the shit out of the actual threaded part of the balljoint, i.e. don't try to bash it down.

to get it off without a balljoint tool (but buy one of these)

put the top bit in open vice jaws

put the nut onto the thread and wind it so the top is flush with the "bolt" (to protect the thread)

give it a hard bang with a heavy hammer

you can do this with two hammers but its harder

To do this without damaging threads etc...

Use two hammers...place one on one side of the steering arm and bash the other side(ie across the balljoint) with another hammer...sometimes it is easier with two people if your co-ordination is not crash hot ..

I don't know why this works -probably squishes against the taper ..this has for me on several occasions...
.
Hope this helps...

Since you don't care about the Sigma steering arms (and hopefully plan on replacing the balljoints given how encrusted with shit they are), you can just rest one side of the steering arm on a firm surface (big chunk of wood, wheel that is lying nearby at Pick-a-part) and hit the other side of the steering arm with a large hammer.

As said above it will eventually pop off the balljoint.

I couldnt find a ball joint tool so i got a small gear puller, tensioned it up as much as possible, then gave it a couple of soft ish taps with a hammer. Came off like a dream. Its the ghetto method i would recommend http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif
