don't EVER try gemstone 195 50 15s
no

NO don't touch them.

horrible horrible horrible tyre. i actually thought my panhard bar had come off my bus, they wander around due to sidewall flex that much
they do bake wll tho, but way too dangerous, unless i got a freak pair?

zetums are the bomb. they are just old stock of kumhos that never got sold. they rename them zetums and sell them cheaper. absolutely awesome tyre 195/50

and word of advise... dont let other people buy you tyres. had someone buy me a pair cause i was at the track and ran out. he bought me bob jane xenons. 195/50 they were an absolute bucket of shit and cost me more than most other tyres i buy.

ok i want new steerers, have used both re001 and 595evo, and ive gotta say i prefer the evo just cause of the stiffer sidewall. wanna try something else tho, and i prefer non directional if possible so i can rotate them side to side (my driving style flogs out the outer shoulders hard, even with 3 deg camber) also do alot of hills driving and rough long distance freeway shit so dont want to use semis

195/55/15, >400 a pair would be good
do yokohama aus sell neovas in that size? their site only lists 17s and up
toyo proxes?
RE01Rs?
anyone used continentals?

s14seriesII
24th May 2010, 12:05 AM
pretty sure advan neova are avail' in 195/50 R15

id recomend toyo proxes R1R they are directional, but to rotate side to side just get them flipped on the rims :)

castor is a lot more likely to fix the scubbing issue not camber

racsov
24th May 2010, 12:14 AM
yeah aligning for less castor. i flipped my last pair, but seriously, i want to stop half way though a prac and side to side rotate them, especially if they are $$$ tyres
really want a 55 profile 50 is the difference between grinding my driveway and getting stuck in my driveway
what are proxes worth?

racsov
12th July 2010, 12:04 AM
ive put khumo ku31s on the front of mine, as old mate couldnt get federals in the timeframe i had.

they are ok for drifting, decent turn in, not too sloppy, nothing particularily good or bad about them. one good point is they seem to take to shoulder wear alot better.
grip driving however, they are pretty shit. dont feel as good as my old 595evos. they are noisy even under small weight shift, which sucks
proxes next time i promise

s14seriesII
12th July 2010, 01:07 AM
considering the ku31 is a 90$ tyre aimed at low end street use im not supprised....

--Redwork--

I don't think I've paid more than $100 for any 195 50 15 before...
Only exception Is my Achilles 123's that are pretty freaking AWESOME... :)
Haven't got try 595rsr re001 or ku36 yet.. all in good time Though..

Need to find a GOOD cheap rear tyre that can take 250rwkw and not delam.
Thinking I might try Robo's Kenda KR23's next time I buy some skid rubber..
Have a few MA Z1's to chew through first.

S14seriesII... I think I remember you saying they delam though.. the Ma Z1's that is.

Have a pair of new Mrashals here as well.. Anyone used them.?
Or the Admirals that Option 1 sells.

i use falken ziex ze912 on the front and i find they have a great grip rating in wet and dry, + at 100 each for 195/50/r15 they are great for value. they also dont wear as much on negative camber

racsov
12th July 2010, 08:45 PM
might have found a challenger to the almighty kenda.. ZETUM.. they are pretty much the same price, but a friend used them last week and they wore to complete slicks.. will buy a pair next time..

yeh MA Z1 tend to sorta chunk apart on the rear.. not so much delam,
cheap tyre that doesnt delam on the rear would be a ku31 kuhmo or most of the falken range.. although grip levels are not liek adrenalins or R1R's

Today there are none in Australia.

Any other recomendations for very good 185/55 steerers?

Worth looking at importing tyres?

Need these ASAP!!

benzo

Nexen N2000 are avialable, but after skidding on them I'm not really keen on running them on the front.

Can also get Marshall, which are identical to Kumho KU31. Again, not sure about running these on the front.

The reason I went 14s was for better traction, I don't really want to compromise and end up behing my old 175/60 Trampio set-up.

that sucks! i was planning on grabbing a few pairs!

wouldnt be cheap importing them. how wide are the rims you using?
have you looked into the dunlop range.

i had a pair of 185/55 toyo trampios a few years back. (like 4 years) i was pretty sure toyo did something.

i have found that different states get different sizes. like nsw couldnt get 195/45 nankangs yet qld did. maybe try different distributers in different states. be cheaper than importing.
just email a whole heap of distributers, surley there has to be something decent in aus!

I can reccomend Bridgestone potenzas adrenalin, Toyo R1R and Toyo T1R as steer tyres used all three on my laurel. Also used Nankang NSII's, they where farking shit house, ran em for half a prac day on the front, then put em on the rear and delaminated in 2 laps.. bad understeer as well.
I have been running Traxxions on the front and rear of my S14 lately, I really cannot fault them for a $60 tyre (235/45/R17) apart from the fact when they are pretty fresh the get a fair bit of tread squirm, but once they wear a bit they are pretty impressive as a grip tyre and as a rear.

What sort of psi do people run in their rear tyres?

Dry: 30-35 depending on type of tyre.
Wet: 18-24 again depending on tyre.

As for rear tyres, this is what I have found. (Always had R1R's on the front).

Jinyu (195/50/15): Grip level is ok, nothing flash. Massive smoke. Decent tread wear, always wears evenly can probably do 8 laps of Winton on a pair.
Khumo Ecsta SPT (195/50/15): Probably my favorate rear, good grip level. They last quite a while too and also wear really evenly.
Neutons (195/50/15): GREAT grip, which is surprising because the 17" suck. Smoke a bit. Dont seem to last too long though, probably even less than the Jinyu's.
Toyo R1R (195/50/15): MASSIVE grip, as to be expected. Absolutly dominates any half worn clucth but wear starngely, never delam though. Best rears for the wet.

Im trying some sunfulls in the next couple of week, will report back.

Roadstone N2000.

Grip is pretty average, these wear nicely though. I've always run them backwards too. Usually run 34psi.

I can source Federal 595 Super Steel cheaper though, I need to get used to more grip.

They are 'okay'. After running 595 Super Steel's on the back I would rather adjust my driving than go back to NS2000's.

I run RE-01 Potenza's on the front. They are incredible.

i have only ever run ns2's on the rear (4agze) and i was really happy with them. provided enough grip to maintain speed yet would still slide when i transitioned between corners with no throttle or hand brake. but the compromise is tyre life. they dont last long at all. the middle strip just comes off and it will delam. i did not notice much of a difference running them forwards or backwards.

im thinking of ordering federal 595rsr's for steer tyres and federal 595 evo's for rear. anyone had much experience with these? will be behind a 4agte with around 170hp

Used some triangles on the rear last weekend. They were ok.

Grip levels were adequate and they seemed to be lasting VERY well but then I got them too hot and they delamed like a mother fucker, ie. half a tyre delamed while the other half was still roadworthy. Also had another pair of Neutons again and fuck me, in a 195/50/15 they are still grippy as tits.

Cant remember all the (rear) tyres I written up about in this thread, maybe I should compile them all into one post?

Oh and for your rears, I would recomend triangles. Not too grippy (for NA) and cheap. I can get you the cheapest prices on them, PM me what size you want, how many and ill get back to you with a price.

That goes for everyone else too, if you looking for the cheaper brand tyres (ie. for the rears) PM me with what size you want and how many and ill get back to you within a day or two with a price.

Yeah thats a pretty good price Kriss.

Yeah I quite like the Sailuns, they weren't the grippiest tyre I ever used but still better than avereage, better than triangles I recon. I got good lifetime from them too plus they didnt delam. Leigh can do them cheap too, if you want more call him or myself.

Front: 195/50/15 Toyo R1R's - Awesome grip from cold

Rear: 205/50/15 Falken Ze912 - Didn't rate them, not much grip and chucked the tread really badly even when barely worn.
205/50/15 Dunlop Andrenalin re001 - Ok tyre, okay grip. Didn't last very long
195/50/15 Federal 595 evo - Has more grip than the other 205/50's i've used and last a heap longer. Smoke well too. What i'm using at the moment

Yes the triangles are still available, I'll find out what the exact model is tomorrow for you but I'm 99% sure you will only be able to get one model of 185/60/14 or 195/50/15

Talon GLS (I think its called) should be availible in atleast the 195/50/15, probably the 14 too.

While im here, everone meet Leigh (above), many of you probably know him already for his on track antics, but off track he owns and runs inverse tyres. Find Inverse tyres on facebook and like them, they will pretty always be your best bet for skid (& steer) tyres in Victoria.

bringing this thead back, need some ideas of good skid tyres for the rear. Only have a stock bigport so don't want anything grippy, after something that is going to last ages and is easy to spin.

have heard good things about:
-triangle's
-blue streak's
-rotalla's

anybody know of any others?

and does anyone know where to get these tyres in sydney?

what model of nankangs are they? and does it have a hardness rating on the tyre?

up front i run a Toyo R1R 195/50R15 on a 15x8.5
rear is a Federal 595 RSR 205/50R15 on a 15x9.5

These seem to be a great combination together, both tyres have very high grip levels even cold. they seem to work very well on anything over 220kw

recommended 195/55 15 or 205/50 15?

I've used Hero Atlantas at ~$80ea

happy with performance, not so happy with delam.

s13 james
5th December 2012, 08:43 PM
nankang only have 1 model 185 55 14,and the hardness rating is high cant rember exact number and Rotallas are not grippy run like 40 in them and you shouldnt have any issues turning them,i killed 1 pair in 1 run on sunday but from delam wasnt happy

Holy thread revival batman. Ive had a few 15's ive used recently, anyone else add 15 china tyre reviews?

Achillies ATR Sport 1 195/55/15 400 treadwear: quite grippy in the dry when new, grip tapers off as they wear though. Decently stiff sidewalls but delamed slightly at wear bars tho. Deadly slippery in the wet, like super slippery.

Derubio ?? non directional 195/55/15 280 treadwear i think: Very grippy in the dry, have done a few long street links in them and havent delammed and prob 3/4 tread still. soft shitty sidewalls though, need good pressure to work well, like 36 cold. Not tested in wet. left blackies and presumably good smoke.

Want to look at kinforest, maxtrek, rotalla f108, im gonna try kenda comets again i havent since car has been turbo.

I've just fitted Kendas Komets to my car again man. 195/60 15. good grip right down. can't beat em for value.

tried those Achilles ATR's on a friends car recently and I thought they were terrible. rather drive on 2nds.

moving up to 16" soon for lower profile. have heard good things about Sumo Firenza ST-05A??

Anyone tried Dayton DT30s?

I have bought a couple just because they are nice and cheap but not had a chance to try them, wondering if I should buy more before the next event

I've tried Kinforest KF880 and I have to say that they are the best rear tyres that I have tried. Good grip throughout but tapers off at the very end, long lasting and minimal delam. This with a stockish 4AGE and 4.77RWP. Got 5 pairs stupid cheap but can't get them anymore since the dealer has switched brands...

Seen a few people running Sonar tyres for practice sessions, slow tyre when cold but hard wearing and once it warms up a bit not so bad.
