Depends what you want...

The kind you buy second hand aimed at drifters that will probably offer you little or no protection in a real crash...

Or a real Cams / Motorsport spec cage that might actually save your life.

Where are you in Brisbane?

There is no evidence to suggest jap cages are bad at all, they fall under very simmilar guidelines as cams (safety 21 is jap version of cams)

the only people i have ever heard comment on jap cages being bad are people who spent thousands on cams cages, many of which i have seen to be INFERIOR quality to most jap cages I have seen.

Again, nil experience, huge comments.

If you are interested in a complete CAMS approved cage, PM me. Expect to pay through the ass though! if its in molly you won't have much change left from 4k.

you can get mild steel cams cages, they are usually 1/2 to 2/3's the price. molly cages are very strong and weigh sweet fuck all, thats why they are chosen material choice for many IPRA racers.

4k is SFA for a cage...a FIA homoglated strut to strut moly cage will usually cost 10-11k depending on what you really want

jap cages are shit, because the mainhoop is a pissweak 38x1.5mm tube...compared to a minimum 45x2.5/3mm (in steel, moly is diferent)

dont think that the safety 21 rules will be something to follow...fact is, japan is just alot more relaxed when it comes to safety.

so yeah, safety21 cages may look 'wow hardcore driftoz' but cages here also need some form of side intrusion

and driftke70, please stfu.

My Trueno sedan (coupe if you wanna be picky) has a safety 21 (Cusco) 6 point cage and I've had that engineered no probs.

**edit - not for cams. Just for street duties

You want a homoligated cage or just a "sick! like i have a cage so my car my do mad skidz" cage

Any one can build a cage but dependsing on its design it will or wont make homoligation

Firstly build a by the book mild steel (seamless) cage exactly how the book tells you with all minimum bars (now include roof crosses and a 2nd A pillar bar if more than 500mm from first bend to the floor) and some optionals for saftey

Secondly is a "free design" so anything using chromoly or any bars different to that specified in the cams manual myst be tested by a engineer and be certified to match cams spec

A cage with side intrusion bars can be street registered (but its not easy) there are limits of the edges of the door frames you are alowed to obstruct, also a clever cage/seat combo will allow for a full gusseted, crossed, dropped side intrusion system and it remains fully street legal

ALL japanese bolt in "drift spec" cages are poo, if you are going to have any decent roll over with one your not going to get much benefit from them.
They have to many bends and weak material also most of the lack any real lateral bracing

Drifting in the proper scence (not powered oversteer) in a street car promotes rollovers aswell catching a ripple strip+ and front side wall at decent speed will see the car go over.

I suggest calling into your local cams office they will give you a list of local (and interstate ) dedicated ROPS fabricaters and more info on the subject, Any engineering place can build you one even you in your backyard can, it just must meet the free design limits or by the book homoligation

LOL, safety 21....Safety 21 is just a brand of roll cages.
Bent front cage legs for the lose, I would not be trusting my life to one of those cages, they are far inferior to the sort of proper motorsport cage ANY decent motorsport fabricator would build.

Cage designed for safety > cage designed for fit, looks and weight.

Sorry, but most Jap bolt in cages = shit.

Theres no evidence because nobody is stupid enough to leave them in the car then attempt serious motorsport. Wouldn't fancy a cage leg through my femur personally.
