This could have been prevented, Gilly.
Was watching it on the news. Apparently the swat didn't storm in until AFTER she shooter had shot himself, when they should have stormed in straight away.
The shooting could have been prevented, as he killed 2 earlier and went back 2 hours later to finish off more.
What were the police doing the whole time?
Bustin_86, i do agree. They do keep digging themselves bigger and bigger holes. They don't do anything to stop it. They need EXTREMELY strict gun laws, but nothing is happening.

And its not just gun laws I'm talking about, though that would rank high on my list, the American's, and particularly there government, do all manner of fucked up things and then sit around and wonder why people get pissed off at them and blow them up and shit.
Anyway, this is a car forum, and sometimes political views should be kept for other places.

hindsight is a wonderful thing.
people need to realise the American government does not reflect the American people. they still get up every morning, go to work, pay bills and come home like we do.
32 people died, who gives a fuck if they were american. those people were innocent and have had their lives tragically cut short by one barbaric act.
each of those 32 people leave behind a mother and father possibly children, their partners, brothers and sisters other and family and friends all of whom would be deeply traumatised by their death
but yeah fuk them they deserve it because they were born in america......

As i said, its sad that people died. People are people. I feel what your saying Gilly, and i agree whole heartedly.
But i still stick with what i said. I think its wrong that these people create for themselves the nation that they live in, then they whine about the consequences. If they really cared enough, they would change it. But at the end of the day what their government sees is 32 people dead, which while it is regrettable, isn't enough to enforce stricter gun laws which would mean less sales of guns, and less tasty taxes.

No never been to the US mate. Traveled a bit, not anything flash though. Obviously my views are based solely upon what i believe and what i have learned from whatever possibly biased opinions i have taken in. Sorry if my lack of experience bothers you, but i was under the impression that we were to express our opinions that we posses without disclaimers specifying our knowledge in the matter. Take what i say with whatever spin that you please...
I fully understand how lucky we are. Because people worked at making this country what it is. Which is what I'm trying to say.
I wouldn't call it hate as such, more that i don't have much sympathy for them. They made what they have what it is.
I'm sorry if my views have troubled or upset anyone, but nonetheless they are what i believe until i can come across a opinion that counters mine with enough force for me to rethink my beliefs.
Chris- Some people may give you shit, but i would personally admire an effort like that. At lest you would be actively trying to change your circumstances so that this stuff has a smaller likeliness of happening to you. What annoys me is that America, and many other countries, fuck stuff up then complain about the consequences. I have good money that in a couple of months only a small percentage of people will dwell on this happening, and that nothing of consequence will change in regards to this incident. If people are genuinely upset by it, help change it. Or at least try...

this did happen in Australia, Port Arthur 28th April 1996, Martin Bryant killed 35 people and injured 37.
Due to the structure of the Australian Constitution, it was not possible for Federal gun legislation to be introduced, thereby requiring each Australian State and Territory had to (freely) acknowledge and endeavour to implement tougher laws. obvious public support in the wake of the previously mentioned Port Arthur shootings, and minimal opposition from gun owners' organisations (we just don't have that many), resulted in laws being proposed for immediate adoption in all states, which included mandatory gun licenses and registration of all firearms, and a near-complete ban on all semi-automatic rifles and shotguns, and all pump-action shotguns.
The governments of two states, Tasmania and Queensland, objected to some of the changes, causing John Howard to threaten them with a constitutional referendum to transfer power over gun laws to the federal government. The Federal Government also threatened to cut off federal funding to thos states and territories.
The National Rifle Association (USA!!!!!), attempted to intervene in the issue by supporting gun supporters. Faced with the pressure of strong national public opinion, the two objecting states agreed without any compromises or concessions to the new laws, which were immediately enacted.
The Federal Government introduced a 1% levy on income tax for a period of one year to finance the billion dollar "buy back" purchase and destruction of all previously legally-held semi-automatic rifles including .22 rimfires, semi-automatic shotguns and pump-action shotguns. Although only one state published statistics, it appears that 5% of the destroyed guns were of the military style, the remainder being sporting and farmers' working firearms. This initiative cost the australin taxpayer in excess of 500 million dollars.
These ideas and initiatives would have to be adopted by the United states if they were to have "acceptable" gun laws. Unfortunately not all states see the need and with a population of just under 300 million (as opposed to our 20 million) it is indeed in my opinion a monumental task one that could never be successfully achieved
sadly...

us ae86 instead of taking rhd parts from aus to america, why dont you just bring everything to australia. Australia is a fairly multicultural place, sure people will point out the fact your american from your accent, but who cares.
Another one of those things that happens, its only a matter of when in america. Its almost like they just keep going in the same repititive loop. They will be fucked soon anyways, over 14% of the american economy is owned by sand monkeys. They will continue to build it up over time, then pull it all out of the country in one hit and crash.

just read about the james bryant thing in tas, i was always a bit sus about that, the people he "ïnjured" had little more than bumps and scratches/grazes etc from jumping on the ground and running away, all 35 deaths where head shots. He also supposidly used a semi auto shooting from the waist. To be honest with you, 35 moving targets, shooting from the waist, he would have had to reload several times. Just kinda seems unlikely to me, i cant give any reason as to what could have happened but im just saying, you know, doesnt add up.

the big shame is america could actually have been 'the land of the free' had they not held onto such outdated firearms legislation, a remnant of their civil war. instead it's the land of the rich, the poor, and the gunshot victim.

just an interesting point about the port arthur/martin bryant shootings
you know the weapons that he used in that attack i think it was a FN FAL and a AK
the serial numbers on those weapons matched weapons that were handed in at a gun buyback in victoria

I CAN'T vote. I'm a convicted felon. So why even bother. If I could vote, it would be a different story. This is what I get for stupid behavior as a kid.
-Chris-[/b]
Bit late back in this thread...
Wow, that is f#cked! Not the felony bit, people make mistakes, but the not being able to vote part. I'd understand if you were in gaol, but as you're someone who I gather has done their time, thats total bullshit. Democracy and justice - where?!
And I see there's been another multiple shooting in a public place the other day.
Oni,
I fail to recall a buyback on those guns prior to Port Arthur - they were legal before. I don't think corrupt Victorian Police had anything to do with it, more likely someone probably forged the serial numbers on one pair of the guns which would make sense for whatever reasons the gun selling crooks might have.

Wow! Australian's, well at least ae86 owning Australian's are a notch above the americans! I did not see one reference to the fact that he was a Korean import having to do with it.

Because it doesn't? I don't see how his race would have had anything to do with it.
He was mentally unstable, he had a gun, people died.

Unless i've missed something, none of us have EVER given americans shit on this forum, its the laws, and if we ever have, its probably a joke. (As EVERYONE does once in a while)
I'm an american and I have done nothing but tried to help everyone out on this forum.[/b]
So because 1 or 2 people make extremely small remarks you blame everyone?
But for me to see all the bashing???? It kinda hits a low blow for me guys.[/b]
Again, i haven't seen ANYONE "bash" americans. And if they ever have im sure it was just poking fun, as people do.
no cheers,

There was no need for that....

gaol....lol[/b]
Don't be disparaging the Queen's English my friend!
I haven't bashed Americans in this thread but I certainly feel a rise in hostility when I see "jail", "color", "favorite", anything suffixed with "ize" or any other awful, lazy corruption of spelling....

absolutely correct.
gaol is the correct australian/english spelling. The other words you mentioned floody, are horrific bastardisations made by America-land. Which can't spell anything unless they spell it phonetically like a 6 year old "sounding out" words.
good on you. correct english is worth preserving.
EDIT: in defence of seppo's like chris, they don't have much choice given american spell checks n software n shit drop the "u" out of heaps of words, and replace a thousand or so "s" letters with "z" letters.

Ah true Klutch, it doesnt... thats the point I guess. Just seems a heap of other people tend to think otherwise from things I've read which is well, stupid...
