Check if your fuel pump is staying on. Maybe it's running only while the key is in the start position, then cuts out once you let go, giving you only a few seconds of pressure.

if you open the throttle up will it stall straight away?

as hen has said, it sounds like the circuit opening relay may not be switching power to the fuel pump once you stop cranking.
ive seen a few ecu's fail to output the 'FC' earth to keep the relay switched and fuel pump running before, might be this, or has been wired wrong.

This is happening with my car, but mine stays on for a while. i.e. it idles but only just. Im hoping the new MAP sensor I got for it will fix it as the old one seemed to be stuffed.

yeah the map sensor is still in working order ive tried it on another motor so it rules that out.

Have you just installed this into your car ? Have you had a 4AGE before ? Has this been running in this car fine before with no problems and this has just come around ?
Let us know and we might be able to give you a more direct answer.
In the mean time go to your ECU. Check that the BF pinout on the 10pin plug to the LEFT.
Check that this has 12v when the key is turned to ON (Ign ON). If it doesn't, temporarly add a wire from BF to B+. Try to start the car again and see what happens.
Ecu pinouts below.

Happy I could help :)
Now either setup a relay as intended by factory or cross over the orange/black coil wire to the BF wire (this is how ae82 4age works)
What loom do you have, FWD AE82 modified or JDM AE86 ?

Sounds like you have a serious vacuum leak.
Did you take the manifold off the motor during the swap process?
If you did, what gaskets did you use when you put it back together?

If that's the case, something has been modified in the loom, or the fuse is blown on the loom for the EFI. One of those little dangler things hanging of the loom over the firewall. the biggest one should have a fuse.
That's if someone didn't cut it off.
