For starters when do you think the show was taped? Second of all, people can OWN a car and DRIVE it on there LEARNERS as much as they want, ever stop to consider that BEFORE accusing her of trying to scam a car?

Go Gilly!

Far and away, you are the best driver in that field. Some of the other drivers scare me... but you have a massive head start, having Darren Appleton next to you, that has to make a difference!

One thing that has me confused, is it a NSW license that you get when you pass? Its run and taped in NSW, and I'm curious to see if you get the NSW license only, or if they help you transfer it back to a QLD license...

Good luck Kitten, and would love to see that AE86DC plug in there http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

"For starters when do you think the show was taped? Second of all, people can OWN a car and DRIVE it on there LEARNERS as much as they want, ever stop to consider that BEFORE accusing her of trying to scam a car?"

No, no I did not consider that. Neither did I mean to imply any offence at all with the car scamming thing. On the contrary, it was meant as a compliment - I thought it hilarious that a qualified driver could pretend to not know how to drive, and fake his or her way into a free car. That's all.

Ok well first of all you need to pull your head in, You dont know her personally so to be totally honest its not your place to say if anyone can drive or not, The fact it they ALL are getting out there and having a go. Its not about just a car, its about proving to themselves that they can do things that they thought they couldn't.

I know Jill personally and I know that she is a stronger person because of this, and that is a better reward than a materialistic thing like a car.

Im not having a shot at you mate, I just want you to see it in a different light http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Well I appoligise to Jill. Good on her for having a go. Personally, I wouldn't have the guts to learn to drive on national TV.

In my defence however, I was just going by what jdm_dreamr said (haha, sorry to involve someone else)
"...she has a fkn beautiful car and can drive it... is she just in it pretending she can't drive to win the hyundai, if so thats fkn sick lol"

If that was the case, I'd agree - that would be fucken cool.

yeah the transparency and honesty becomes questionable when the chubby bird hits a curb at 15kmh and airbags bust out and smoke is pouring from everywhere for ages. edit: cause the fuckin airbag sensors are like 40cms from the ground on those c***s so yeah... the average curbs like 20 but ok...

no need to jazz it up ffs, its a good enough formula without dramatics.

and yeah, the gay guy achieves the honorable title of making me switch channels when he starts bitching.

I think some of the contestants in the show should never be allowed to drive on a public road, ever. They have minimal hand eye co-ordination, they panic at the drop of a hat, don't seem to understand how to convey a vehicle through traffic, or even through simple static obstacles. If it's an exaggeration that they're putting on for show, then it's pretty funny, but if those skills being shown are the true life driving abilities of those drivers then they will kill or injure themselves or someone else on the road without a doubt if they were given a license, at least with an instructor in the front while on L plates the instructor can yank on the handbrake or try and stop the vehicle if needed.

I feel sorry for the real bad drivers on the show, but having seen how long they have been learners for and how little they seem to improve even after being taught by professional instructors, well I think public transport is the way to go for them. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

OMG i watched this tonight, noticed the following

1. that gay guy David is fkn hilarious, and Darren can't do anything right, according to David....

2. Sharni (i think, wipeout panic attack girl)should never be able to drive a car, i felt on edge just watching her. she sadly is just way too nervous, no confidence she has a panic attack every .12 seconds. if she continues to drive she'll have a heart attack by the age of 30 or an ulcer. maybe some people just aren't supposed to drive, there is no shame in that.

3. the guy who is scared of driving, gets claustrophobic and that, is a legend. i don't care if no one else got their license i just want him to get his. i felt sorry for him he is obviously traumatised by the death of someone close (i assumed it was his wife as he is doing the show with his mum (i think)) who died in a car accident. he is trying reall hard to overcome it so he can drive his little girl around and be a more capable father. i just thought that was cool, much respect.

4. Jill said not even one word in that episode http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif saw your face on TV heaps though but that was it http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif quiet achiever

Gotta agree with Gilly on all counts there http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

The guy (Robert, is it?) deserves his license, he is a true trooper. He seems a lot better now then when he started, but despite everything he has been through he's still going. What a bloke!

That gay guy (David, yeah?) needs to take a look at himself. He was funny this episode, but every other ep he consistantly tells the instructor where to go, he doesn't seem to realise that driving the way HE wants to will not get him a pass at the end of the day.

C'mon Jill!

I was in shock after what happened to Sharni, I was a little upset cause that challenge looked fun. Sadly I didnt get a chance to try it out. http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

Gilly
10th May 2007, 01:24 PM
i, to be honest couldn't believe they held that "challenge" that is part of an advance driver training course and is meant to be undertaken by a IMO semi confident licensed driver. some on the show struggle to understand the basic physics of driving and yet were asked to preform that task.

i dunno to me that was a bit rich. some of the incar stuff was scary, sharni was absolutely terrified and i feel never should have been put in that position.

did they can the brake challenge thing after that run? i figured they would have.

i'll have to watch it next week, i've got a face for the name but not a voice http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif not having a go or anything. it was funny i was telling Tam that you were on there and we'd see you for fleeting moments they just didn't air any thing you did the one week i watched it http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

i'll suss it out next week though, David is hilarious i had tears cranking from laughing so hard

gay people crack me up, not because they are gay, well it is but yeah more so their mannerisms and speech, i'm laughing now http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

On topic...

Yeah I was disappointed that you didn't get a run, Jill. Although I have to agree with Gilly, those drivers that aren't advanced as others probably shouldn't do the advanced driver training segments, as it is hard enough for them to drive the car, let alone do what they ask you to do. I was having this discussion with, of all people, my mum, that they do need to get a grip on, and be confident, driving a car before doing those things. Otherwise, it can have the opposite effect, like what happened to poor Sharni.

The other question, is do you get another chance to do the segment again, to show off what you have learned? If not, its a waste of a good advanced instruction course. doing it once doesn't improve the skills, doing it more than once is the way to go http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

I have passed the test twice. 1 in qld 1 in nsw. Yes I have my license have for 4 months now. ^^^^^ that happened 2 weeks after getting my license I was hit by a truck while I was stopped at a red light then he rebounded off my car and hit a light pole which fell on the car. I feel lucky to be alive and to have my license.

Thanks guys, Back in Jan I we filmed the show and all I wanted was to be able to come home to my 86 I missed her soooo much. 4 days after I came home went for my test and then I was over the moon to drive by myself,

Yes I am still with Darren http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wub.gif even after the show!!!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif Such a Trooper for helping me to pass the test .I was hard with cameras all the time.

^^ sounds promising!!

congrats on getting the license, probably sounds weird to get congratulated now when you got it like 4 months ago http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif Darren was uber calm compared to the rest of the partners, i suppose he's been in scarier situations http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/laugh.gif

bad luck with the coupe, getting hit by the truck would have been bad enough, let alone the bad luck of the truck knocking a pole on to your car!!!!

you were very lucky in regards to where the pole fell, looks like it didn't miss you by much!!!

Good luck with the next car whatever it may be, and good luck on the roads from now on.
