as topic states....

probably ditchin the keto late in the year, not gonna bother with the conversion, as ill save that for the hachi when ive got proper moneys....

however... in case i keep it or give it to my brother... who has heard of some bang for buck 4K mods?

i was lookin at carbs and stuff... reckon twin sidedraft carb like an SU hs2 would go ok
along with cam etc, ports work maybe.

ps yeh ive seen the turbo setups gettin around but turbo is kind of a dirty word imo lol.

just curious as to any success people have had. not too serious, just fishing for some stories.
afterall this is the 'off topics & jokes' section. wondering if anyones built a 4K that isn't a joke.

cheers, macca

I started off with a 4K. I rebuilt the stock carby. I striped it down to the bare basics. Got rid of alot of stuff in there and drilled the jets slightly. Had only a little bit more go.

You had best go to a bigger carbie. But be prepared to change jets to sort of get the tune within ballpark of running ok.

If you are running points ignition still, change the points every 3 months to keep them fresh. Advance timing a little from stock position.

many many people work k motors, take a look at some NZ toyota forums, simple way to up the compression is fit a 3k head, your could put some extractors and exhaust work the head a hell of a lot and even fuel inject it, put a lumpy cam in it and see how you go, theres a turbo 5k in aus that makes 150kwatw and does a 13 sec quarter

NA tune on one of these motors would just be queer lol.

Slap a turbo on, pump massive boost, enjoy wheelspin and just replace the motor once every couple of months.

best peice of advice in regards to 4k EVER!!

all i know is that there is NOTHING "mighty" about my 4k...holy crap its slow...

ive got a 3k carby on mine, its exact same carby as stock 4k , but doesnt have any of the emission stuff. has a pipe for vac advance, one for the valve on the rocker cover and thats about it. i didnt notice any performance increase.

ive also upped the base timing to about 15deg BTDC, havent noticed anything, it was running at 20 deg BTDC for a while (didnt realise) and with just normal petrol (not premium) and still didnt notice any difference in power.

ive taken off the clutch fan and added an electric thermo fan, noticed that it revs slightly easier. but nothing drastic.

my advice - if you cant afford a 4age , then get a 4ac. that way you will be half way to 4age (gearbox, clutch master, xmemeber etc) and 4ac is soooooo much better than 4kc. and its super easy to put it in, like 6wires and 2 fuel lines and your done...

im sticking a 4ac in my ke as soon as i can find a ae71 pedal box (anyone help?) and cant wait to not have to drive around on full throttle all the time just to get anywhere.....

people over at rollaclub have had success in getting some nice power out of the 4k, but i just cant justify spending that much money with such a small gain (in comparison to 4age gain)

but yeah, unless you are prepared to go absolutely crazy with the engine (like 3k head, mucking around with carbies, whatever else you can do to these things etc) then just save a little more and get the 4age http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif

I understand that the 4ac convo still does cost a bit so if you insist on keeping the 4kc... turbo! go deploy boost sliding!

Ghey i know, but 4k is ghey anyway...

yeah you have a good point, 4ac conversion isnt "cheap"

i guess most expensive part is stupid gearbox, and actually sourcing the parts is a bit annoying

reckon a turbo 4kc is engineerable http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

Im gonna mod the 4K in my KE70.
atm it has stage 2 cam (apparently, cant feel any power lol)
But im going to just go shaved head, port polish. (or 3K head and big valves?)
32/36 weber, cheap as and redline adaptor plates are $36 off ebay.
extractors exhaust.

all these modsshould be pretty cheap, only ones that will cost money will be the exhaust/extractors.....an even those i could get made up cheap.
Straight through pipe anyone? lol

I'll see how it goes.

my 4K is pretty good, slow by any standards, but spins up ok in the wet.
slides 2nd gear corners lol, and pulling out into traffic on main roads sometimes gets a bit scary when you punch it, and then slam into 2nd http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif
I wonder what traffic thinks.....haha

and on 195 tyres http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/wink.gif hopefully getting some 175s soon

You better ask the guys on Rollaclub that Rally a NZ Spec KE70 how inferior the K series engine is...

Just enough for Second outright, First in class out of a 5K... out of a field of 45 cars at the Border Ranges Rally...

Beating Evos and WRX's with 8 valves, pushrods in a KE70 banger is something not to be sniffed at.

Being able to drive like a maniac helps too.

I reckon these guys must have some pretty average 4k's.

I used to drive my mates stock ke70, ie 4k k40 etc, and it had no troubles sliding on the road in the wet. Just took a little more balls than a 4ac or whatever... still drifted 2nd gear happily.

SLSD FTW!

I heart my 4K, never had an engine that can take so much abuse and live.

Spend a little money on it, a good carby, exhaust and cam upgrade will see your 4K performing better. But unless you're really serious on getting power from the K motor, don't go spending heaps on it.

Thats a 4K with weber and exhaust and thats even on a day it wasn't having its arse raped out of it.
