I was thinking about different engine swaps other than a 16v or 20v black or silver top, and it came to mind that a corolla sportivo 2zzge 1.8 vvtLi engine would be really good in an ae86.... i use to drive a sportivo and the acceleration response was amazing and when the lift kicked in was even better.... has anyone with an ae86 driven one of these engines befor ? and has anyone ever considered of done this conversion before ?
what are your thoughts, any ideas?

The engine is super sweet, I agree.
I'm guessing it could be done, but not without a lot of headaches... mounts, converting the engine from FF to FR, dizzy, probably need for individual coil packs and an aftermarket computer will add up.
Do a google search for it, it may have been done. 7AGE's are also fairly popular (apparently), so that could always be an option.
I like the thought of doing something different but.

That^ and the fact they dont get 'on cam' untill 6000 and rev to 8000. A pathetic torque output below these revs makes daily driving annoying ive read in many reviews. Did you feel this on the road? If you want a revvy 1.8 I would say go Honda B18C (DC2 Integra type R Motor) Extremely flexible, makes 95% of its torque at 3000 and still wails on cam and revs to 8400! Parents had one for a while, still one of my favourite cars without a doubt. That or the F20C (S2000 motor). Only problem is custom shit would be damn expensive as well as the initial price of the motor as they are not yet old enough to turn up in half cuts very often. Also, I'm a very firm believer in keeping it in the family when it comes to conversions.
Your best bet would be to save a lot of money and simply make a 7age 20V...Probably go harder too.

they also can break valves and the bore lining can come off, you cant rebore this thing one tiny bit.
I heard these engines have a bad rep because they are in heavy corollas and the like, and they have more power than what they feel like, only hearsay though

IIRC all but the F2x series engines spin the wrong way. It can be overcome... with difficulty.

i considered going 2zz but after some research, the 3sge beams was the decided better option.... ends up cheaper too (less fab, etc).

Lets face it, someone will do it eventually, but imo if you cant bore it out its less enticing. You have to be a right foot master to ride a 2000rpm powerband. I have heard of valve breakages in US spec cars, but bear in mind that they run shit fuel, so who knows. Do it, then we'll all know. How bad can it be, lotus use this engine in a boosted format. Yummy! If i was gonna be doing an exotic and expensive conversion id look for a 2gr-fse from a lexus.

Dunno if anyone has mentioned this yet but Lotus uses a supercharged version of this engine putting out 162.5kW @ 7800rpm according to redbook. I was just watching Top Gear and they were talking about it.

thanks for the replys guys you all had good stuff to say on the topic...
konakid i must agree with you it did lack torque but it was a very fast engine, my one ran a 14.5sec 1/4 mile that was with a pod and an axelback exhaust!
i dont really want the car for drift more circut and windyruns thats why i have my eye on this conversion someday, ohh and also the corolla was 300 to 400kg hevier than the ae86 so thats a fair bit more power there. It will be need a fair fiew customthings made tho!!!
I did find on an american site a white ae86 with a vtec in it, looked pretty neat!
