CAMS Cage Question

1/2 fitted a Bond Roll Bars cage to the ADM a few weeks ago, But what is the specs on the rear inner wheel house mounting point, the cage just came with open tube for the rear section, also wasnt supposed to be a dash dodger, I say this after I chopped the shit out of a dash.

So what thickness plate etc.

You need a 3mm plate as the footing. The tube has to be welded to this. The plate can be either welded to the car, or bolted to the car. If bolted, a plate also has to be placed under the car. There are stict regulations about the size of the plates and bolts etc... You have a fair few options for where exactly on the car the rear tubes are mounted. Mine are right on top of the rear wheel well. Other people put it close to the shock or spring mounts.

While your on is the front section allowed to be bent, to late now as its fitted

I think is says the A pillar leg can only be bent in 2 places (if it's the same tube that runs back to the main roll bar). Which basicaly means in practice, it has to go through your dash a bit. You are not allowed to have a S bend around the dash.

I just cut my dash a few days ago. I had to cut the air vents also.

Thanks man, I chopped my dash & then the cage just skimmed where it would have been, well pissed off :hehe: Ill get over it. But ya it must be the CAMS I ordered. Just used to IRL/UK regs where the it has to be straight to the floor no bends

The A pillar tube can only have 1 bend.

Normaly you would completely remove the dash. Then build the cage however it had to be. Then carefully cut the dash if needed when refitting it. Every cage is a bit different. Some racecar builders get very picky and cut the dash perfectly, then have it retrimmed or something to make it look 100%. If it's not a show car, this is not realy needed.

i had a study on the cams reg rollcages awhile back. In my opinion its a crock of shit. but if yoou can build a half decent full cage around the regs then go for it. Always tripple check the area of base plates too, one of the cars at work had it wrong and didnt pass scrutineering

I know in FIA cages are only allowed 1 bend, heres my supposed CAMS approved????

It does look like two bends. It is ment to follow the A pillar as close as practical, with only 1 bend.

A basic cage ready for CAMS inspection has to be in the car and finished. So the responsibility comes down to the guy fitting it, not the tube suplyer. But if Bonds or whoever sold you that kit saying it would be "CAMS approved", I would talk to them. Or take it back. But I am no authority, and I probably missed bits when reading the book.

the double bend sort of sucks, especially if you have a Safety 21 or a Cusco :(

What I think is funny, is that an old crappy bond is acceptable(looks like it's got fencing connections) but a nicely made Safety 21/Cusco isn't...
