Got a reaction? :hehe:
Tried all the main stream brands in BWS etc, the only one I can find that does the job is the cheap import amsterdam & thats not the best.

meh, are you from Ireland?
But yeah, Aus beer isnt the best, just like your everyday lager.

Your proberly more use to Ale's?
I kinda prefer them too.
I think its mainly due to the climate here, it's pretty damn refreshing opening up a cold one on a warm day haha.

but saying that, its still 1000000000000000000000000000000000000x better than American Lager haha, thats piss.

Coopers Pale Ale.

That's just straight out not true. Gives you a hang over and all the sediment in it makes you feel like shit.

We have over 80 different beers from around the world at our cafe restaurant.
The Place is called the Anchorage Hotel in Victor Harbor South Australia.
Depending on what your after there some very good beers from all around the world.
Belgium beer is consistently good no matter what brand. Some of the American beers show promise but you have to go for the hard to get boutique beers before they start getting quite good. They are doing some really interesting foref ront drawing over there. Double and triple fermenting as well as adding flavours like apple and orange to there brews.

In South Australia we have some really descent small breweries producing some great bears. Vale Ale, Pepper Jack Ale, and Knappstein are there really good beers to look up. Tassie does the best commercial beers by far, in my opinion of course. Try looking up Cascade Pale Ale pretty hard to get though.

Lol coopers pale ale is terrible. So fizzy and full of sediment. Drink a 6 pack and can't fit anymore in your stomach. Hahns Super dry ftw can drink cartonn upon carton and not feel bloated.

Besides Millers, so bad, its like softdrink.

All i pretty much drink is super dry, can drink it all night and day.
When im poor i just buy xxxxgold or bitter, or just toohey's new.

But what i think is funny is when people say they love Asahi but hate xxxx gold, when they taste exactly the same, but i guess gold isnt jdm enough yo!

Give me chivers anyday though. I love scotch.

Scotchy, scotch, scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly.

I went to a party in Melbourne a few weeks ago, where all the older guys (40+) were happily drinking VB, (when other beer was readily available.) I can't believe how highly that stuff is regarded by Victorians. It's as if they stomach it just because it's made in their home state.

driftke70
29th March 2009, 02:03 AM
i drink mainly tooheys new,

drank fosters for along time, people get caught up in the cool to hate side of things with it though because they like telling people the story about how noone even drinks it in australia, not through tasting it and not liking it, but following the crowd.

if its in a clear bottle i wont drink it,

my fav beer is dos equis, been to mexico, drank corona, got laughed at and they bought me a round of dos eccys, been in love ever since. If you ever see it, buy it.

I mean be a man, drink some fucking beer.

Not a beer with abit of fucking lemon in it.
Would you like a new tampon?

I dont really buy 6packs.
6 tally's tonight, oh extra dry:oh::hehe::rolleyes:
or just i ussually buy a carton of either coopers pale ale, sparkling ale, or just superdry.
or just buy tally's of superdry, tooheys new or 4x bitter.
i know its hard for some people to comprehende but i auctually like guinness.
not because no one else likes or, or because its imported i just like it haha.
goes down smooooth.

Now im finishingo ff some rum which i really dislike but meh, there not mine.
they were in the fridge and we just fiished going for a ride, so why not.

but fuck...corona?

i wish i had some scotch

There is so much fail in this thread...

If your into lager style beers and not ales/stouts etc

czech beer shits on all..

There are some good aussie beers.. just steer clear of the usual junk. James squires quite nice.. coopers may be over rated, but its still a great beer, is brewed properly and stays south aussie and wont sell out

Most of the 'imported' beers in aus you get these days are brewed here.. Same as the UK, same as Ireland

The beers you guys drink in Ireland arent too much better.. generally if your not drinking guiness, your drinking light lagers selling as imported but brewed in IRL (ie, heiniken)

I was happy when I found a place round the corner from my house in Ireland that sold 6 packs of coopers sparkling for 10euro..

Tasman bitter (hard to find) is BY FAR the best vaule for money full strength.

$30-33 will get you a cold carton and it is the best by far until you get into the $49.99 region.

After that, super dry and tooheys new are good. Squire and

Im not that fond of the Heineken, becks, carlsberg style beer when they were imported and even now theyre brewed here and sold for $39 a carton.

My least favourite is Carlton Draught, it is horrible.

I used try to try every different beer and drink imported italian and japanese stuff, but i much prefer aussie beers now, cheap and simple.

skit
30th March 2009, 01:43 PM
A personal favourite at the moment is "Rogers". You should find it in Dan Murphies, or BWS.

Brewed by Little Creatures in WA, from memory.

It's actually a mid strength; which I think is great, because you can enjoy more of it before you begin to forget what's special about it.

Anyway, for everyone who is not a "VB/NEW/XXXX til you die" drinker, I recommend trying it.

been pretty much nailing down carlton draught and tooheys new for a while now. With the odd case of dos equis when i have the cash.

Seems like you guys are getting pretty ripped off in SA.
I usually pay around 40 to 45 for a box of 30 cans of new.
Or 38 to 40 for a case of draught.

One thing id like to point out as someone who drank vb for a long time.
It tastes soo much better in the can than stubby.

Bought a case of fosters for the chrissie period. Going down so good.

My favourite session beer of all time would have to be coopers pale, it's my standard go to beer. Sparkling is fantastic but not as consistent as pale (you can get some cartons that are amazing and some that are not - but still pretty damn good). I love both dark ale and stout but they're alot heavier so not as suited for drinking big.

I've been through most common beer types from most different bottle-o's to at least give em a go and everyone who's rating crap like errdinger and amsterdam doesn't get beer. Different companies (BWS,Dan Murphys etc..) all have their own selection of cheap, assorted, imported crap like that and none of them is really worth a mention.

I'm not a big fan of lighter lagers and that but I do love becks and to a lesser extent heineken, especially if you can track down fully imported euro-cans as opposed to the brewed under licence stuff.

King of the low carb pile for my would have to be extra dry, there isn't really another one that I like.

I love trying out more specialised imported beer, like all the stuff at the belgian beer cafe in adelaide for example - even if they do charge you like mad for it. and australian boutique stuff. You have to careful though as some 'premium botique' beers taste like bad homebrew. I rate the sunshine coast brewery's chilli beers which are sold at montezumas (mexican restaruant) here.

Finally my bad beer rant, the following beers can die - VB, XXXX, west end draught and..... crown lager. Crown larger is an average beer with premium pricing and marketing it is in no way worth what they charge or even very good.

for the record I have drunk and will probably drink again every beer I've bagged cause when you're at a party and theres nothing else in the fridge or if the $$'s are tight, what ya gonna do?

Chaos Theory
31st December 2009, 11:45 AM

i think coopers 62 is called that because coopers beer was founded in 1862.

what i enjoy about it is, the fact that it still has the same alcoholic content as other beers like pale ale, but it is much easier to drink and doesn't leave you feeling bloated and too full to finish a carton.

I'll drink XXXX, XXXX Gold, Tooheys New, Hahn Super Dry, Pure Blonde.... etc etc.
I'll drink warm british ales, I'll drink thick rich Belgian beers.....
So long as it doesn't come in a clear or green bottle.
With the exception of Gosser, my fave beer on tap that I had in Mittersill, Austria after walking 15k's down the Autobarn (it has no foot paths, very interesting situation to be in) from catching rainbow trout all the day before.....
In Antwerp I had many great beers. Juliper, etc etc.
German beers, I can't remember the name of, Brau-Rup corn beer in Mittersil, the beer from Hofbrauhaus in Munich.........

I could go a beer right now, after all this talk.

But basically Corona, TEDS are the two beers I won't buy... but I'll drink 'em if they're free. Oh an VB... but then again if it's free.....

I went over to the Feral Brewery in the Swan Valley (WA)

They have one called "Hop Hog" it was fair decent.

If I can't get a Corona, i'll settle for a Budweiser

BUT, the Yank Budweiser (off the tap) is tonnes better and I quite like it. I drank 3 litres in a sitting in April '09 at Medieval Times (Los Angeles). 2 x 1.5L glasses. Pic for proof attached. The cup next to it was a pintglass for scale !. Boss was paying, said he wanted to see me kill 3 litres in a sitting. Done ! I was pissed as a newt for the next 2 hours though.

- Japanese Kirin/Sapporo/asahi, not the australian made stuff under licence, although that stuff is still (only) ok. Special mention to the stout style sapporo - it's brutally good for a dark ass beer.

That's my selection for mid range stuff... For cheaper beers I like superdry and that's about it.

Cans make the beer taste like shit just the same as having beer in a glass thats was washed with dishwashing liquid when it should only be rinsed.
VB comes in a can so does XXXX, Toheys new......i rest my case

I prefer the taste of bottles but cans are rad cause they get cold so easily, are easy to open (who here has woken up with long paper cut type cuts down their thumb and finger from twist tops?), and if you're camping or whatever they can be crushed up to take up hardly any bin room.

Usually if I'm into cans I'm there for a sesh not just a nice brew or two with my dinner or anything

cans are good if you go up the beach, dont end up with beer through your bacon.

tooheys new is a great beer,

vb in a can is made in a different factory to their stubbies, and is a pretty good beer.
vb isnt a cheap nasty beer, people who are into light shitty beer just dont like it.

I went over to the Feral Brewery in the Swan

BUT, the Yank Budweiser (off the tap) is tonnes better and I quite like it. I drank 3 litres in a sitting in April '09 at Medieval Times (Los Angeles). 2 x 1.5L glasses. Pic for proof attached. The cup next to it was a pintglass for scale !. Boss was paying, said he wanted to see me kill 3 litres in a sitting. Done ! I was pissed as a newt for the next 2 hours though.

.

I smashed 4 Steins and one 500ml beer at The Hofbrauhaus in Munich. Good thing was that some crazy yanky bastards bought 'em for us.

They were all like "are you guys Australian? We're gonna buy you a beer, you guys are like our only friends left in the world" and "I hope that Obama fuck don't win the election" ahaha.,
And one of them was lived in Aus for years, he fucking loved it. Was awesome talking to an american who reckons state of origin is as good as Superbowl... And drinks Aussie beer, gets it sent over to him in the states..

Ahhh germany, how I miss thee and thy beer.

Beer with bacon sounds fucking good.

And I always thought the VB cans tasted better then the stubs.

Also on the subject of Jap beer, when I was there I liked Sapporo and Asahi, but not Kirin.

If you are shopping at chains to get good beer then you are doing it wrong. Chain stores are there to sell the stuff they can get for the cheapest price and distribute to all of aus. If you want good beer find an independent as they usually get a lot obscure stuff that you may not have heard of but tastes damn fine, or at worst a regional chain. BWS / Liquorland FTMFL.

1. Kilkenny (brewed in aus) best beer ever. none of that crap tasteless corona
2. Bees nees / red back (matilda bay brewery)
3. James squires Amber ale
4. Boags Draught (great for one the cheaper beers)
5. Carlton Dry Fusions (for those 40+ days in the pool when your half cut)

Thats for the stuff you should be able to get all over aus. WA has heaps of micro breweries such as little creatures, last drop, bootleg ... I could go on all day. And a lot of that stuff is sold in the smaller chains. I guess we are spoilt here

Just on last drop, they make an awesome Pale ale, can buy it at their drive through in a 5 litre mini keg for $32, and it is sooo dam tasty, very similar to hoegaarden. Little creatures stuff is pretty good too, although a little overpriced.

oh btw an excellent jdm beer Ebisu, Awesome name, great taste too.

Man 6 hours is too long to wait after all this talk of beer ... damn 12 hour days!

^ I agree bootleg brewery is awesome, aside from beer they make a killer BBQ sauce.

I love kilkenny too but I can't drink the stuff out of widget cans - kilkenny/guiness are strictly on tap only for me. Kilkenny more so than guiness pours flat straight out of the can, I know it's not meant to be the most carbonated of beers but it's just ridiculous.

exactly right, lving beer atm, i know it's not beer but have been hitting zubrowka hard lately too, i don't normally like vodka but this shit is like nothing else, if you haven't tried it buy the best apple juice available put one part zubrowka to 3-4 parts real good apple juice and enjoy, take note it's pretty easy to consume the bottle so make sure you don't have to work the next day, fuck ssaturday morning for me sucked

^ forget the name, but spreyton maybe

Tasmanian, possibly only sold at woolworths is the best commercially available.

Some of the apple juice ive had in adelaide hills is like vaginal nectar from a vegan virgin.

Really digging some of the micro-brewery stuff coming out.

Top 5 at the moment:
- knappstein valley - needs no comment.
- Vale ale - ridiculous amount of subtle falvours, still picking up on them after a few 4 packs lol! (at almost $5 a beer, carton AINT CHEAP)
- James Squire Sundown - refreshing arvo bbq beer
- Little creatures Pale - Good pleasant beer that always pulls through
- Mountain Goat Steam ale - Hearty, cheap, and just a tiny bit left of centre.

:)
