The last setup he had running was an AE101 block with the Tomei crank , pistons, and cams(304 D&L) , Jun connecting rods. Blue top large port 16V head from matsumoto engine (Japanese machine shop) AE 101 throttle bodies with a DG-5 adapter. For engine management Tomei Reytec ECU
Does that help?? Let me know if you need any more specifics!

What is Ueo using to get that massive steering lock?
I'm guessing a full custom job on the steering rack and rack ends?
Cheers.

I think the best thing about Ueo's car is that is was built with a very budget conscious philosophy unlike some big $ D1 machines. Built from readily available parts, many used parts and others sourced online and doing a lot of the build and mods himself! It's amazing how his car was and still is competitive and a true testament to his awesome driving technique!!!

Quaife QSR kit, P/S knuckles, revolver over angle tie rod ends, and having NRCA's helps too! the whole front end (arms and such) is all Cusco

That was true at one point! he was running that setup! but the last season that he ran D1 in the US he was running the Tomei Reytec setup ( look closely on the passenger floor you can see it there) here's a link to it!

Its a great article but a bit vague in spots when it comes to some detail... and keep in mind that he was under sponsorship at the time so he has to market his sponsor under contract rules!! I'm sure you know what I'm getting at!

im fairly certain he must have customized his quaife rack by cutting extra teeth...
cos theres no way, from the other thread that a quaife rack can have 90 degree lock as Ueo does, as it only allowed PS arms and no lock spacer.
Argh so frustrating..

I received this in a PM thought I'd respond here for everyone to see in case someone has the same question.
Hi arod,
By any chance, do you know what setting Ueo is using for:
Front and Rear Camber
Front and Rear Toe
Castor
Thanks mate,[/b]
His set up really varied on a number of diffrent things, like weather, track conditions or track layout. the one thing that remained pretty constant is a mild toe out in the front by 1-2 degrees. Caster was set to factory spec, but camber really varied on wet days almost none at all if any(+ settings ), on dry days ... sometimes zero to - numbers just depended on where and what!
hey arod, another question...

As far as I know the front is a 23mm ans the rear is a 20 mm those are the only ones that cusco offers and thats what he runs so that has to be it! unless cusco offers others that i dont know about......

I think his recent engine has the throttles and intake angled downwards. The head is highly modified, so the intake tract is straight more like the 20 valve. The engine has blue cam covers as it is build by Tomei.

Arod, do you have anymore info on how Ueo cut the 3 extra teeth?
I have a Quaife QSR Rack which is flame hardened (This is how it comes from Quaife). I have taken it to 4 different machine shops in my area and no-one will touch it with a 50-foot pole.
Any info on how Ueo cut the 3 extra teeth, if he did it by hand somehow or a machine shop did it? would be great!
Cheers

use 2 screw in type lockspacers and get super crazy lock
kaibeecee
26th June 2007, 10:51 AM
i don't think he has 3 extra teeth cut more like 1, and he just runs super custom long tie rod ends, with longer lock spacer portion on them
ae86hachiroku
26th June 2007, 11:01 AM
the point of him running 3 extra teeth, is because he has a quaife quick rack, notice that the quaife does not have enough teeth to accomodate lock spacer, long tie rods, and PS arms. Therefore needing to cut 3 as Arod has mentioned, which will then allow the additional lock.
kaibeecee
26th June 2007, 11:30 PM
or, the rack has been trimmed on either end to accomodate the spacers, cause if i recall, the quaife rack has a dead spot of about an inch either side
who knows, it's probably on the internet somewhere in japanese. it's irrelevant anyhow, he's a nissan man now

yeah thats something i wanna know, whether he uses spacers, those over angle tie rods seem to kick out the angle quite a bit.
