Do we need this and if we do, what is it for and where does it go?

Dont really know the way 20v's go, but my guess would be map sensor?
It definately looks to be some form of vacume port

The other one goes to the back of the throttle butterfly, so yea my guess would be back to some sensor... hope that helps

It is for power steering idle up. There are 2 hoses going to a sensor on the steering rack, one from this fitting show, and another to the air box. When the power steering is used, extra air is bled past the throttle for idle up.

In your application, it is just a vacuum port. Use it or block it off.

Other vacuum use on 20valve:
throttle diaphram (slows throttle closing for emissions)
charcol canister to 4 throttles via electric valve (valve pulses at idle, opens at full throttle)

I back up the info from Jonny (or the hot women!) its a power steering something, just block it up and your set
