Hey Guys/Gals!!
The title speaks for itself, does anybody know the part number at all??
I know that there has gotta be a few people out there that know the part number!?!?!?! Anyone that has bought some, please let me know!
There must be one good person on here that can give me the part number(s) for them.
This thread will probably also get LOCKED, why it will get locked "I have NO idea", but I thought we were all on here to help each other out with problems and technical issues e.t.c

PM me with an answer!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Thanks for the thought Wooly.

There is no part number for the Australian KYB catalog at the moment, I'm in the same boat as you trying to find some rears to suit my front agx shocks. The only thing you could do is give kyb a call and give them the dimensions of the standard ae86 shocks and see what they have that could suit. or just get them through ajps

I have more coming soon actually

Like I said to David (AJPS) in a PM. There is NO part number in the Australian Catalogue that will fit an AE86 rear.

Found some info though:

Front: SW20 Rear 4 way adjustables P/N: (KYB) 765016
Rear: "Camaro" 8 way adjustables P/N: (KYB) 743019

Kyb AGX's are:

body length 332mm
total extended length 558mm
total compressed length 385mm(roughly)

Some for sale in the US:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KYB-AGX-Rea...sspagenameZWD1V (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KYB-AGX-Rear-Shocks-1982-2002-Camaro-Firebird-743019_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33590QQihZ007QQi temZ170103035677QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V)

You can find stuff pretty easy when you surf the net http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

Everyone knows those ones, the camaros are so soft, be better off with excel g, and you cant order camaros from ngk, have you considered some trds

I have considered TRD shocks, but at the moment I am thinking of something which is VERY easliy obtainable.

Has anyone done this option on the AE86 front??

""Front: SW20 Rear 4 way adjustables P/N: (KYB) 765016""

I can get these pretty quick, but need to know if they deffinately work!!

need spacers or shorten strut tube

I have AGX 8 wayadjustable on the rear and I don't think they are camaro's, because they are hard as f**k. I'll try to find out the part number,.

""Front: SW20 Rear 4 way adjustables P/N: (KYB) 765016""[/b]

I have these in my sprinter with 6kg/mm springs and they are pretty good. The highest setting is a little too hard for the street suggesting they could be run with a higher spring rate. I have them in a standard strut and they need appropriate spacers top and bottom (to risk bottoming out and to keep the spring captive), they would be more suitable for a coilover setup though.
I got mine in through a 4x4 place off research road and they were fairly cheap, (the other place offering them at the time was John at raceflo I believe but this place was cheaper), Dave might be able to get them at a good price though? (no ajps back then iirc)

Ok, now I have just ordered my front AGX shockers for my AE86, now I just need a part number for the rears. I THINK that I know the part number for the AGX KYB's (not the Camaro ones) but I am not sure.
Also, if anyone has any more options that would be good on the rear, then let me know.

Dave, PM me with prices on your AJPS 4kg, 6kg an 8kg front and rear springs awell.
Thanks Guys!!!

You can also use 765017 which are the celica ones, ive got them for mine and from memory they arnt as short as the mr2 ones so dont require as much of a spacer, Havnt made up a spacer yet so not 100% sure how much but think it was only about 30mm, and also the gland nuts do fit and screw in 100% into the sprinter strut. What part number do you have for the rear nos? could u post it up or what car its for

As soon as I get the definate number, I will post up the information for all you guys http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif
Cheers!!

Oh yeah the gland nut is another thing... I got mine from repco for about $20, monroe sell them as a seperate part (the guy didn't have any in but he took some out of a shock set and ordered some more in to replace them)

nos4ag

Ill see if I can do some good prices on gland nuts aswell if you wants guys!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif
Let me know who wants some!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

the monroe gland nuts dont work properly, they are JUNK (you lose 10mm of stroke)

the stock ones are NO GOOD either dont suit the taper even with the oil seal removed

the gland nuts that come with the agx shocks for the front are WRONG thread entirely

i had to buy a box of nuts from japan to suit them properly, even t3 couldnt get them

i have plently left in stock, and i include them with all the shocks i sell that require them, come to the shop one day ben and i will show you what i mean

all my springs are $200pr (less 20% for trade for you)

cheers

Anyone ever used these? Looks like a pretty neat solution for those that dont want to go coilovers

and they are... lol

RobertoX

gland nuts + spacer in one... you need to make a spacer that fits into the gland nut and around the top of the shock if you want to space the shock down that far in order to position the shock so that it isn't skewed

RobertoX
24th May 2007, 09:04 PM
'advanced strut tube spacers' good idea in theory you run out of stroke

RobertoX
24th May 2007, 10:28 PM
Yeah depending on spring rate I guess... I'd like to space mine down a bit further than they are but not as far as those t3 ones go. I'll just make my own out of 2 bits of tube slipped into each other for about $2 http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/tongue.gif

Those T3 'Advanced Spacers' are the most horribly mis-designed pieces of junk Rex has laid eyes on in some time.

Why in the name of zombie-Jesus would you pay for and install short stroke dampers, only to take a further 70 or so valuable millimeters out of the already reduced stroke. What? is 2 inches of stroke range enough?

As Alan Jones and his Prosthetic Scrotum (AJPS) said, He has the proper gland-nuts and spacers to get the full range from the short dampers on the shelf. It is an undeniably better way to go.

Rex'll bet that AJPS is much cheaper too.

Or if you can spring get the strut properly converted.

RobertoX
24th May 2007, 11:31 PM
because the damper will be in the correct part of its stroke (not almost bottoming out), the springs will be captive and coilovers are too expensive for pov bastards like myself....

I wouldn't actually buy those things but would use the same concept. Actually I have used the same concept but have spaced top and bottom... Have never bottomed out with mild springs on Adelaide's horrific bumpy roads....

Think of it like banging a dude. Sure its possible, some people even do it and it works out fine for them. But technically its not really the right way to go about it.

They need not even be coilover'd. Just shorten the strut below the perch, or shorten the strut and move the perch.

NOS4AG likes the way Rex Kelway thinks Rex Kelway thinks!!!!!!!
Keep the info coming Rex and fellow suspension modifiers!!!! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/smile.gif

RobertoX

Yup Rex's posts are awesome but sadly I have to disagree with him on this point...
With any spacer you get the same bump travel, the spring initial lenght and rate is what determines what height the car will be, not the position of the shock casing in the strut tube. The spacer is to adress springs being non captive at full shock extention and and giving the shock appropriate bump travel.

slight mod to Rex's diagram:

http://www.geocities.com/robert_ae86/you_get_crap_bump_nomatterwhat_spacer.JPG

You want the piston to sit in the middle of the shock casing for the damper to work the best. Not only does it bottom out if the casing is up too high it will have no/insufficent droop travel if the casing is too low. As would usually be the case if you used the T3 spacers or had your strut cut down too much

Disagreement, Await Rex's persuasive arguement tonight.
