I'm finally getting some good suspension for my hachi, i dont want to go the coil overs due to the cost, so was just wondering what shocks you guyz think are the best? I have been looking at either the Bilstein G6's or Koni yellows, or maybe the KYB agx's (even though they are gas shockies).
I've been told $350ish for the Bilsteins each from quadrant in berwick, $480ish for the koni yellows (pair) from top perfromance in vermont, this is for the front.
Any thoughts?
Cheers

Bilsteins and konis are good. General thoughts in regard to shocks is that euro shocks are probably the best - being bilstein.

Yeah i guess lol. I work for VW so i would'nt say that euro are the best, they tend to fall apart more then anything. That been said VW s arnt even really made in germany there assembled with crap from other counries lol.
As long as the shocks are actually made in Germany they should be sweet.

Koni are made in Holland. Kayaba in Japan. Bilstein is German, with a factory in USA and maybe others. Is this a fair comparison?

I say yes, because they are companies competing in the same market.
Out of those, I'd go bilsteins.
Personally though, TRD blues or tokico HTS, both the short stroke adjustable versions are fantastic.
Also the AGX are very good.
Yes I've had experience with all of the above.

to the best of my knowledge there is no KONI short stroke option, other than that of using AE92 or MR2 inserts

I expected this would be the case for all brands. Short stroke is something you have to work out for yourself. Maybe some brands have the short stroke application worked out, that would be a bonus.
The KONI list several different AE92, I think you have to get the USA GT spec one. AE92s in Australia don't use inserts, they have sealed struts (Munroe) with the spring hanger welded to them.

I've never use Bilsteins but i know that they're a good product! How ever I have used Koni's in the past and I really like them!!... either way I think they're both good choices!!

hey in hpi v1 or v2 they take a tour of the trd factory and during that tour hpi say that trd shocks are made by kyb, does anyone know if this is correct ?

Some TRD shocks are made by Tokico Japan.

Yes. KYB also made some of TRDs stuff...
I don't think it matters though, as in thr KYB lineup theres nothing that matches trd blues - therefor they make them for TRD, to TRD's specs.

well i've been using the yellow koni shocks, no complains whatsoever, but i havent try the others, may be at some stage later will try different brands, TRD perhaps, been using TRD 8 way adjustable shocks for my ST205, far more better than standard one http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/emoticons/2thumbs.gif
