your going to need to put up more info than that......could be one of a 100 things without any info.
did you forget to put the alternator on? (yes, im being a smart arse)
charge light on all the time?
whats the charge rate at the battery?
what battery is in the car?
is the battery in good condition?
i can keep going......

well, the alternator wont charge unless the light is working, at least thats the way it is on a 4age install.
so you need to connect the wire from the back of the alternator into the ae86 loom. also the alternator needs to have a reference voltage so it knows whats going on, if thats not connected then the alternator wont charge either.
have you checked to see if there is a charge at the b+ on the alternator. measure with a multimeter +ve on the b+ terminal and -ve on the alternator body

i'm not familiar with the sr altenators but are they a similar bosch item to the 4age ones? as in a 3 pin plug on the rear of the altenator?

From memory on the twin plug 1 would be a constant and the other a trigger.

i was told to link a cable from the power of the alternator to the one of the cables that connect into the plug but that still isnt charging

where can i find that cable going back to the ae86 loom???

Methinks since it's a sr alternator what you do to a 4age alternator to get it to work won't work.
Find me an S13 SR20 wiring diagram and I will figure it out and tell you what goes where.

So on the ae86 side you have:
B-Y IG get power when key goes to on
Y L charge light, earthed when alternator not making voltage.
W B and S. B meaning battery, S being sense
On S13 you have:
W-R L Charge light
W B the big fucker
W S(ense)
earth
B and S can go to Batt like pictured
Since there's no ign. going to the Nissan alt., I'm going to say the charge light is negatively switched as if it was positively switched, there's nothing to tell the alt. to turn on.
So connect the W-R off the Nissan alt. to the Yellow wire on the 6 pin plug that used to go to the voltage regulator.
